Tkachuk hit on Guentzel (no supplemental discipline)

BTW, most replays being played show it in slow-mo making it seem much more late. Looking at it full speed, you can't even count one steamboat here before the hit after he dishes the puck. This is the NHL son, keep your head up.

Thanks for that. I got to "one one thouS" which is about .75 seconds ... I believe the criteria for late is like 0.6 seconds or something. So this one is late.

One can see it's late because Tkachuk doesn't commit to it till the puck is gone.

This is borderline interference as Guentzel had just played the puck, whereas Barkov never touched it, and this was clearly to only the shoulder shoulder, whereas it looked like the Barkov hit got substantial head contact, and Barkov couldn’t get up after the hit, vs standing right up.

Aside from the hitting players both being rats, not terribly similar.

The only one to not find the hit that bad?

Guentzel was caught admiring his pass in a losing game for an empty netter.

Keep your head up.

Not saying it wasn't a lil bit cheap. But I've seen worst things in these playoffs that didn't even get called.
Context

Look at how the game had gone in terms of skirmishes
Look at how late in the game it was done
Look who did it

All that being said…I don’t see it as a suspension offence but I do see it as a good reason for some revenge.

If I’m Tampa I hope for a similar score late in the next game and focus on nothing but delivering a borderline suspension hit on Tkachuk.

Hell…if I’m tampa…f*** borderline. Knock him out of the playoffs lol

Genuine question, what’s different from this and a two minute interference?
Imo 5 min interference is for big body checks that are late - are delivered when the target doesn't have possession - like this one. Checks that are predatory.

2 min interference imo is for obstruction, when a player leaves his lane to purposefully get in the way of another player without the puck. Like a moving pick. These are not dangerous plays, but they are not allowed in hockey.

Hagel caught a bit of Barkov's head, though, and Barkov never touched the puck. This was body contact after Guentzel no longer had possession, but obviously late (and a total sore loser move).

I'm aware this is a CBA thing, but I wish fines had a little more teeth. Non-suspendable actions should still sting, and players would perhaps think twice about this kind of thing if it could cost them 25/50/100k depending on severity and history.

1- Primary point of contact of both was the shoulder, hit a bit the head after or not change nothing because primary point of contact was the shoukder and that what's matter

2- on hagel it was a puck battle and if Tampa D is not there to dump the puck in the other way, it was a 100% legal hit. But it was a bad decision by him because he had a D who made a play
vs
Tkachuk the play was over, the game was over and the only goal of this hit was an attempt to injure an opponent and nothing else. That's where i have an issue with it and if Hagel got 1 game, Tkachuk should at least get the same because it was a clear injury attempt

I hate Tkachuk as much as anyone else, but come on guys, that's not suspension worthy.

Like hagel should not be a suspension in my mind but etablish their standard there... If hagel hit deserved a suspension, i don't know how you can be serious and saying this one don't deserve it

Tkachuk's history with DoPS. Repeat offender.

From AI:

"Suspensions:

March 20, 2017 (Calgary Flames): Suspended for two games for elbowing Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty.

November 17, 2017 (Calgary Flames): Suspended for one game for unsportsmanlike conduct during a line brawl against the Detroit Red Wings.

December 7, 2017 (Calgary Flames): Suspended for one game for spearing Toronto Maple Leafs winger Matt Martin.

November 6, 2022 (Florida Panthers): Suspended for two games for high-sticking Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick

Fines:

November 5, 2021 (Calgary Flames): Fined $5,000 for high-sticking Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg.

April 24, 2023 (Florida Panthers): Fined $5,000 for cross-checking Boston Bruins forward Garnet Hathaway during Game 4 of the First Round Series.

Summary:

Total Disciplinary Actions: 6 (4 suspensions + 2 fines).
Games Suspended: 6 games.
Fines Imposed: $10,000.

Tkachuk has been considered a repeat offender for some of these incidents, which affects the salary forfeited during suspensions. For example, his 2017 suspensions and the 2022 suspension noted his repeat offender status, leading to higher salary forfeitures (e.g., $11,280.49 for the November 2017 suspension and $102,702.70 for the November 2022 suspension).

The NHL Department of Player Safety considers factors like the type of conduct, injury caused, and the player’s history when determining discipline. Tkachuk’s past history has been noted in decisions, even when he wasn’t classified as a repeat offender."

If he has a hearing, it will be hard to justify him getting only one game like Hagel.

Agreed

Dirty pos should get a game too. Doubt it though. Fl is the leagues baby right now. ESPN said it was a super important game for the panthers when they're already up 2-0 kind of crap bias is that?

People need to stop thinking ever time a player touches another it is suspension-worthy. This is becoming embarrassing.

It wanst a blind side hit. He came up front. He got caught admiring his pass.

That's your definition of " up front"
