Tkachuk hit on Guentzel (no supplemental discipline)

Again the difference in the two situations is Barkov was away from the puck. He had not possessed the puck or made a play with it. JG had possession, made a play, and then came the contact. Other than the contact, the situations are different.

The difference is hagel was a fight to win puck battle and Tkachuk was 100% injury attempt when he know his ttb will score anyway in empty net and with a game already over

Tkachuk situation in my mind is even worst than hagel

I'd agree with you but...In light of the suspension though?

Both are 5 min interference majors
Both fit the precedent set by the league on the 1 game suspension.
Tkachuk has a past littered with suspensions/fines/warnings while Hagel had 0 history

The "he had the puck" doesnt help Tkachuk here IMO
It could be argued that Hagel thought Barkov touched the puck or it could be a pure cheapshot right? At the very least it was reckless. Tkachuk knew the puck was long gone and absolutely smoked his guy eons late on a play that iced the game.....and he's a guy with a history of cheapshots when hes angry/frustrated.

You simply have to give him at least a game here.

I agree with your logic here and the need for consistency. I just think neither was suspension-worthy. That would have been the consistency I prefer.

The only one to not find the hit that bad?

Guentzel was caught admiring his pass in a losing game for an empty netter.

Keep your head up.

Not saying it wasn't a lil bit cheap. But I've seen worst things in these playoffs that didn't even get called.

Super late, puck was gone before he even got in position for the hit. I doubt they suspend him for it though, maybe a fine. Though it’s really close to the same thing as Hagel, but Tkachuk is a poster boy for the league.

I agree. While I didn’t necessarily agree with Hagel’s hit being flagged as a major to begin with, that’s in the past, and I wasn’t at home watching the game live so I missed seeing it in real time anyway. I don’t think it should have been a suspension either.

Therefore, in a vacuum, Tkachuk’s hit here is not something I believe should be worthy of a suspension. However, since they chose to suspend Hagel, then they should suspend Tkachuk as well.

Not that I’m counting on DOPS to be consistent about it.

I couldn’t agree more, I was honestly disgusted by how soft the posters were commenting on the Barkov hit. Way too emotional because of the amazing player Barkov is.

The NHL got that one wrong and they should be forced to get this one wrong as well and hand out another suspension.

If they don’t suspend Tkachuk, Tampa might just take that into their own hands. And if I was Tampa I’d would feel incredibly screwed by the NHL.

Stop protecting teams like Florida and their rat-shit. Call it right down the middle, and if you suspend for hitting an ineligible player too hard, then be consistent.

Or don’t, which I’d prefer. Both hits were penalties but neither is suspension worthy. Now the NHL put itself into a stupid place.

So make the call, suspend Tkachuk and then fix your bullshit in the second round.

Making discipline based on likelyhood of injury just encourages embellishment.

So that's a 5 for interference now? 1 second after a pass? They've been soft on this kind of shit for years, with way more vicious hits.

Make up your minds you dumb clowns, game state shouldn't matter. I hate Tkachuk and hope he gets 10 games for laughs but that's a 2 minute interference penalty.
Felt that way on the hit on Barkov.
But, the precedent has been set

1- It's a late hit
2- It's a blind side hit
3-It's basically the same as hagel who got 1 game

I don't have an issue with either hits, personally.
Unfortunately, the league decided to intervene. HAGEL, at least has a case for trying to make a hockey play in a 1-0 game. What's Ratt Tckachuks excuse? That was obviously intentional...and not within the normal boundaries of a hockey play.

HAGEL gets 1 and Ratty T gets one. Game 4 will be tightly officiated. Maybe Tampa can figure out how to score on the PP

Hagel shouldn’t have been penalized or suspended and neither should tkachuk.
The cross checks to the face should have been called and the offenders suspended but this is playoff hockey and the referee’s are garbage too often.

Lol what the f*** are you talking about......

Hagel caught a bit of Barkov's head, though, and Barkov never touched the puck. This was body contact after Guentzel no longer had possession, but obviously late (and a total sore loser move).

I'm aware this is a CBA thing, but I wish fines had a little more teeth. Non-suspendable actions should still sting, and players would perhaps think twice about this kind of thing if it could cost them 25/50/100k depending on severity and history.
