I like Mirtle and Jonas but even they were being dismissive on Liljegren.
On the Leafs report today, they said there has been an exaggeration on stats for Liljegren.
Okay so for those two who use expected goals a lot, other players who rank high on those numbers and nothing is said and the stats are right, but now when it's making Liljegren look good, it's an exaggeration?
Makes perfect sense:shakehead:

Also acting like Liljegren doesn't exist when talking about pairs in the playoffs. Mirtle at least mentioned if this pair looks great, they might not want to break it up. Jonas than said you can't come up with the right pairs if that happens.
I'm like umm yes you can.

I think it should be obvious that hockey execs and media are not infallible. They follow the game a lot but everyone has some stupid, stupid opinions. The stats and eye test tell us Liljegren is a good player and no one should believe some talking head over the numbers.

Yeah unfortunately as great as muzz was the last 2yrs he was real bad this year. Brought down everyone he played with.

I still think he most likely bounces right back but no doubt this year was rough.
It's a real shame. If we had even the Muzzin from last season and he was healthy we might actually have the NHL's best defense.

The Leafs just seem really special this year. A year older for the core. Much more mature. Marner squashing all his critics in prime fashion. Not easy to do, because his naysayers have sharp teeth and rarely praise, just lie in wait, ready to critique.

Dubas has acted like a magician in plugging and enhancing the lineup. For some of hs detractors, this seems to go unnoticed.

But for a grizzled veteran, like myself, who should have switched jersey loyalties ten times over, with what I have had to endure, seeing a guy like Dubas, pull off endless varitions of dealmaking, all in making the present club better.

Well its remarkable.

He is a true alchemist. Heh, and I like hanging around alchemists, never a dull moment around them.

Look at Bunting, seems a bit tired from working his arse off, force him to take a game off as we need him prime, for the red weddings ahead.

Liljegren...... I would say more than half the board, is not surprised with what we are seeing unfold, right in front of our proud eyes.

And he has done it, with some important key social media figures pretty much writing him off.

It must be painful for a guy who has made a trans atlantic voyage into a new world, to know that he is being scrutinized harshly for every mistake made. Particularly, when he was a unanimous number one, over all pick candidate before getting mononucleosis.

Anyways, having the Muzzin of last year, would be fantastic, and the Jack Campbell, that delivered an all star half year.

We would win it all in that case imo.

In the meantime, I am glad that Lilly, is getting the well deserved love, that he should have had, all the way through.

We owe Winnipeg a beating tonight don't we? Might be a good time to give some of our muscle a chance to play. CLifford laid out some great hits imo, don't know why people thought otherwise. Play Simmonds and say we want the game of his Leaf life.

Perhaps have Douglas come up for a game and give Kampf a night off? Heh. Remember he can skate apparently and he is close to .5ppg in the AHL. You have to be a very good hockey player to be able to do that.

Create a new rep, the don't f*** with us rep. We showed it, against Boston, and it was delicious to see.

If we do, these insertions, wear the black sweater tonight lol.

Wear that sweater every time we want to embolden the boys.

Leafs are going to sign Liljegren long term this offseason and people will laugh. But we'll be the ones laughing in a couple of seasons.

Muzzin was not bad this season, Muzzin was awful when he came back from his first concusion where he was clearly not 100% healthy

Toronto was in top 5 best defensive team before he get injured and drop outside of top 15 after his injury and thats exactly where goalie struggle started because toronto lost his beet defensive dman

Good point.

I think Liljegren is the most underrated player on our team.

It seems like he’s been around forever so it’s so easy to forget he’s only played like 60 NHL games. He’s been very good.

He gets lost in the shuffle sometimes because expectations for the team are high this year. But a few years ago if we had a young dman come up and do what he’s doing we’d have basically considered him untouchable.

I remember reading the piece on Marner. In his D+1 season, he apparently started very slowly on the Knights and was struggling. It got so bad that they sent him home to reset. The he comes back and lights the league on fire and wins the Memorial. His play after coming back from injury/COVID stoppage kind of reminds me of that.

I agree with pretty much everything in this post

Another really strong game for Liljigren playing most of the game with an AHLer. Loved that one timer, tough to get that shot off clean from that angle. I trust him more with the puck in both zones than any of our D and his gap control and cycle disruption are starting to really stand out too. Such a huge development for this team!
