Thoughts on the defense

Doughty-He will retire a King as he should. Still elite all around. Still don’t think he is the best pp quarterback out there but hard not to give him that spot given history and paycheck.

Anderson-I love his game and his role. Took it to new heights against Draisaitl. Hope his new contract will be reasonably decent. Good SDD.

Roy-A solid defender but I think he gets a bit overrated now. Unless DD gets traded, I don’t see him being able to stay for long. RHD should be:
DD, Spence, Clarke-Maybe platoon Roy if you keep him as a seventh.

Durzi-I love his spirit and offense but he is a strictly specialist type of player. He should see limited 5v5 minutes and no pk time at all. Spence can do his role without the gaffs imho. Trade Durzi while his value is at its highest.

Edler-He is Larry hit ‘em with your cane Robinson at this point. Should not play every game.

Bjornfot-Play the kid already. Much needed LHD who still can be a very solid quiet dman. Him playing slots everyone where they should be.

Morverare-Platoon him with Edler. Enough said. Steady defense first guy that can pair with an OD.

Walker-Really really expendable extra RHD. Clock is ticking.

Hard to disagree with any of this except Roy. Him and Durzi are both victims of circumstance, and by circumstance i mean coaching.

Reminds me very much of Muzzin-maritinez where both guys were separately excellent players but together an absolute circus

I do think people are assuming too much about replacing Durzi's PP offense, not everyone is cut out for that. Spence has a bomb and is smart but isn't going to make some of the same batshit insane offensive plays. Clarke may. But we have been short a dynamic offensive dman since...honestly can't even remember. Depends on how you feel about Visnovsky I suppose. I don't see a hurry to dump him. I DO see a hurry to put him int eh right role .

I believe Roy is overvalued player.

He has low hockey IQ and prone to puck watching.

He does not have a good size for physical defensive defensemen either.

I would trade him for more physical LD.

Agreed, the biggest issue is the stupid minutes.. Pull those back to 23 mins and within a month he will look sharper.

Anderson- he’s a #3 at best, and needs that deployment.

Durzi-I love his spirit and offense but he is a strictly specialist type of player. He should see limited 5v5 minutes and no pk time at all. Spence can do his role without the gaffs imho. Trade Durzi while his value is at its highest. We are not good enough to shelter a mid 20’s player 5/5 (maybe if DD was 25) and his offence vs D is not a good trade off when Clarke would bring more long term. This is about building to a cup and Durzi isn’t a piece for us to do that.

The right needs to be Doughty - Spence - Clarke asap (that is not necessarily the pairing order). Then Anderson, Björnfot and the mysterious LHD. The offence on the right means you move Roy + to get an upgraded more physical version of Roy on the left.

That will then give us a balanced D that can grow into a unit that can potentially contend. I know it doesn’t happen overnight but the transition needs to begin starting with Walker.

My big question for Roy tho is now will he become a blocker for others? Is Clarke a full time player now or does he need time the AHL? Will Spence be up full time by next year?

I guess it comes down to who is getting moved.

Why not try Roy w/Tobi. Roy was excellent last season w/a less gambling version of Maatta. Problem is will TMc give Tobi the matching TOI to Roy.
