Pros:

Former cup winner and probable future HOF pedigree

667-445 overall record as HC

Very well respected by his players/former players

Not David Quinn.

Cons:

Not the best track record for playing/developing youth

Bombed out of Montreal in spectacular fashion

Possibly out of touch with the modern brand of hockey and its direction in the coming years.

Thoughts.

He is ok, but there are probably better options available like Bruce Boudreau, Mike Babcock, Gerard Gallant, and Randy Carlyle

They should sign the finnish coach that always overachieve in International Tournaments. Even won the WHC with that horrible finnish squad with Kakko.

My first thought is that you're making me nervous.

I don't want Julien at all. He had some decent years witht he Bruins but much of the credit is due to Tim Thomas (and partially to Rask).

Suggesting Julien and listing his negatives is mixed messaging.

I think the cons you listed outweigh the pros significantly. I’d look elsewhere.

After watching NHL 24/7 with the Caps and Pens many moons ago I struggle to see how anyone can think Boudreau is a good coach. Obviously it is possible that HBO was painting a very specific and inaccurate portrait of him, but the guy came across as basically a cheerleader with no real understanding of strategy or adjustments. It makes sense why he has regular season success (minimal time to prep for opponents, allows players to do their own thing, keeps morale high) but collapses every playoffs (can't game plan for specific opponents or make adjustments when opponents plan for him).

I see no scenario where Boudreau or Julien take us to the promised land.

i don’t like the way he went from one end of a fierce rivalry to the other. Boston hated Montreal and they had some spirited series. He goes right from Boston to Montreal. I don’t like that. Pass
