So, it looks like our roster is now set for the playoffs. We bring in MSL and a depth defenseman and the kids at Hartford are all still there. This is who we're going to war with. Time to focus on the playoffs - and root like hell for the team to win every game.

Which brings me to a point I thought I'd raise in the wake of the contentious deal for St. Louis:

I'm a fan of the team - and that means that every time the puck drops, I'm rooting for the Blueshirts to win. I may disagree (vehemently) with some of you about individual transactions, organizational philosophies, etc., but the reason I watch and come here to post is because, at the end of the day, I want to see the Rangers win. I NEVER root against them.

Someone in the trade thread made a quip that there will be a contingent on the board that will actually root against the team making it to the ECF. Nothing could be further from the truth. I fear that the first rounder will in fact be wasted (and I'll be one of the first ones to say "I told you so" if it happens :)), but I want them to win - and keep winning.

Over the years I've been against acquiring guys like Antropov, Jokinen and now St. Louis, because I thought they weren't enough to push us over the hump - and because I'm not interested in one-and-done ride and would rather build a consistent contender. And I recognize that some of the moves I've advocated could have the short term effect of making the current team less competitive on paper. But, as I said, I'm never hoping for them to be less competitive on the ice.

So, this is our team. There's nothing more to be done about the long term strategy until June. Time to saddle up and back them as far as they can go.

Let's go, Rangers!

Agree with the sentiment.

Whether we like the moves or not it's our team and I'll root for them no matter.

Good post.

Enjoy the playoffs now because I see a very dark future for this franchise in a few years.

MSL is going to be a great ranger.
Rangers win this deal player for player.
Losing the picks hurt, but we lose no additional players or prospects.

Looking past the picks the rangers get another top 3 player.

People making too much over the weekend loses. Flyers are trash. Rangers played sloppy against them.
People worried about the flyers now?; lol.

Boston is another story but we could have routed them if Rask didn't stand on his head...

We finally have a PP that can put teams away in the playoffs. ...

Agree! Very nice post!

Great post! It feels good to put the roster construction stuff on the back burner for a little while and just watch the team play hockey. We can worry about whether or not we resign Stralman and Boyle or qualify Brassard later. Right now... it's all about the hockey itself.

The way you build teams is with speed up front, defense and goal-tending. We have an excellent and relatively young defense, with a lot of prospect depth (been drafting defenseman the last few years), we have Henrik (though we need to start developing another G for down the road - you may not need the best goaltender in the world, but teams with garbage in goal don't make the playoffs), and prospects can be over-rated. Just ask the Islanders, who draft high every year and still stink. This is a big-market team with lots of cash, they can get quality free-agents. I think we can improve our team for now with MSL and still build a consistent contender for the future. Just recognize what wins, and don't trade McD for aging superstars.
