They're playing a lot of PP/PK time as well. Zibanejad is 2nd among all forwards in overall TOI/game behind only Draisatl. Panarin is 13th. There's 93 1st line forwards in the league so that is well above average. A few more minutes per game especially when we're only 5 games into the season isn't going to kill them but it feels like a desperate attempt to keep this team afloat.

This is also what happens when you have 10 forwards most games. Smith is still a rover and Haley is a nothing player. Others will eat those minutes and right now, it's Zibanejad and Panarin getting almost all of them. Trouba is getting it on defense.

At some point, I would not mind Trouba getting off PP1, give to Fox or ADA so he can play something more reasonable. 27 and 28 minutes the last two nights. Only guy who has successfully done that recently is Suter, and he doesn't play the style Trouba does.

Those assignments made sense when the team played 4 games over two and a half weeks. Now, it'll be much tougher to play those minutes and have it work.

This team is awful. Staal falls down all game. Honestly, he needs to be in the minors. Quinn is stil stubborn and hasn't committed to developing a cornerstone of the franchise in Kakko by putting him on the first PP and first line. He continues to play Strome and Howden over Andersson when both have been awful. DeAngelo has been an embarrassment to start the season. At his point, I'm not watching games any longer until Quinn moves both Kakko and Andersson up, sends Staal to the minors and calls up Lindgren. This is supposed to be a rebuild. Not a coach playing a bunch of lousy vets and non cornerstone pieces more than our future.
Seems like you had better get all the premium movie channels then in place of. Because your requests (albeit NOT bad requests) most certainly will not be met. We all want to watch the kids......but "all at once" and "the blind leading the blind", might not be good and the latter is definitely not good.
This is what J.D. means by "patience". J.D. isnt stupid......he KNEW that the Rangers faithful would be wanting the kids......not the Stromes, Staal's and the misusing of certain players.
This season may be rougher than last. We KNEW we would suck last year,
this year we see the light......
But not getting brighter, quickly enough. Not for most everyone here.

The problem with this team 5v5 is the top line. They never should have been together from the start.
Strangely enough, I totally agree with this. There is leftover talent in that line, where it could have been used to balance out lines 2 and maybe even 3rd line. Sustaining momentum equates to goals. Up until now......lines 2-4 hasnt sustained crap. Zilch, nada, ninguno, zippo.
Don't ya' think that any opposing team looks at the Rangers and game plans......shut down Zbad line and we got this win. Yeah, buddy.

I`ve a notion that D. Stepan will score a couple on Tuesday. :)
I`m actually fine with it - the team is not ready to compete it`s simple as that.

This team is like a stew that have just been put into the pot. The meat is still chewy, the vegetables hard, and its still lacking some spices. Still, it smells good at times. Some time in the pot will make it so much better.

When you have luxury ingredients like Kakko, Chytil and Kravtsov, and boil away the Smiths & Staals it will become very tasty. But it is not that yet.

Frankly, “rebuilding” isn’t an excuse to look this bad, especially when a big issue, like the bottom-6, is something that could have been addressed in free agency or trade. At least IMO. Like, if they thought Chytil and Kravstov would make it, fine, but if they were banking on those two making the team, they should have had some decent veteran depth there to play should they not make the team.

When I see our 7th overall pick playing with a defenseman and an ECHL caliber hockey player, and our 2nd overall pick playing with a cast off and future rental, I tend to worry about the roster management.

You are confusing an excuse and an explanation.

This team had the least ROW wins last season, and we are only a few games into this season where there was a drastic roster overhaul.

I’ve been saying it for a long time, and I’ve been saying it especially since last season, the fans of the Rangers end up creating the fait accompli of high paid mediocrity regardless of any lip service they give saying otherwise.

This right now is not a rebuild. It's a team led by an incompetent coach who is playing favorites. A coach who continues to reward poor play from players. Give icetime to players with no future. A coach who isn't committed to developing young talent. Kakko should be put on the 1st line and PP unit for the rest of the season if his effort is there. Andersson should be put on the second line all season if his effort is there. When you take players 2nd and 7th overall, start making every attempt to develop them and get a good idea of what you have. Howden should be a good 3rd line player in a few years. He has not outplayed Andersson. Lindgren out played Hajek but was banished to the minors while washed up Staal still plays. Quinn is playing favorites with Howden and Hajek who were outplayed by 2 other young players. Haley is not an NHL players. Smith has no future here. There is no point playing him. Quinn has been a disgrace to start the season.

I have no problem going through another bad season with a chance at a top 3 pick as long as players like Smith, McKegg, Haley and Staal don't play in place of kids. As long as Strome doesn't play over Andersson. It's nonsense.

No argument from me right now

Yeah, I feel like there's no real disagreement on that "what" of this subject. The debate probably boils down to the "why" part.

I can't really say any of this is unexpected. Disappointing perhaps, but not a shock to the system.

This team is a disaster. They having been giving up an absurd amount of odd man rushes since the pre-season. Our idiot coach has this love affair with Buchnevich, Howden, Smith, Staal and Haley. He tells the second overall pick in the draft the way he played won't work in the NHL. He screws Andersson over time and time again who outplays most forwards ahead of him. He keeps a washed up clown in Staal over a tough, young defenseman in Lindgren. It's one thing after another. I really thought Quinn might be the guy. However, he's just another clown coach who falls in love with inferior talents because they try hard. We had a guy like that a long time ago and his name was Tom Renney. He sucked.

What is truly amazing is that you use periods in your sentences but not in your screen names. One would have thought it would have been the same.

That is probably it. Those who are shocked, I believe, simply convinced themselves of unrealistic results based on the good vibes from summer. Now comes reality and the reality is that this team will be in the lottery hunt again. And no other coach could have changed that.

I'm always the voice of reason when I say oh give them 20 games to settle in and then bitch but to be honest I've seen enough. This coach just isn't at this level. He has no system to speak of. Its f***ing embarrassing to be honest.
