The bigger problem is no one in the FO wanted to embrace a rebuild, Trots declared the Emperor was stark naked, and that still didn't work. CF made the worst of a bad situation. So you’re saying not trading Sanheim at the TDL was a mistake by Chuck? Since we would’ve had to accept 4 years of a bad contract to move him in the summer?
The point is Briere didn't get "lucky," it would have worked out if he traded Sanheim, it wasn't a bad deal under the circumstances. Turns out the Flyers are a much better team than the FO expected, but last summer Briere was focused on rebuilding, garnering assets like 1st rd picks. So it would have made sense to make that deal b/c Sanheim would be 30+ when this team was expected to compete.
Briere has to work with what he inherited, "coulda woulda shoulda" don't matter, split milk, water under the bridge and other related cliches.
