Maybe we should keep him around. Need more forward thinkers like this in the organization.

Flyers gonna trade away this toxicity for the culture.

Everyone knows preventing goals is honorable. If your team prevents the other team from scoring on 50 chances but they only had to prevent you from scoring on one chance, then you've scored a massive cultural victory. You may have lost 5-0, but think of everything you PREVENTED. Eventually the universe must smile upon this, right!? Right????????????????????

Seth Jones is 30 years old. He's better than being on that Hawks team shows, but I'd still stay away, especially at that contract.

You can only leverage his strengths better to a point, he is what he is at this point in his career.

Now, if Chicago wants to retain 50% of that contract, that's a whole nother discussion.
Canes will need to replace Burns as well, though they'll likely snag Karlsson at a discount if he becomes available before touching Jones. Unless Isles will trade inside the division and give them Dobson.

If anybody is gonna rehab him it would be Florida. He’s not bad & there’s some salvageable things there in general. I just can’t take on that contract though. He’s not nearly worth the cap hit or the length.

The Jones FA period was so bizarre. So many guys bent over backwards to justify paying a blatant non-#1 like he's a #1. Before their teams had even done it.

Its funny how much people bank on draft "pedigree." I remember day of the draft ESPN talking about how Seth Jones was likely to go number 1, and it would be historic, etc. A lot of people really thought it was a coin flip at number 1.

If he went number ... 19 that year, hell, maybe even number 9 with less hype, i think people would have looked at Jones much differently.

Remember: the Flyers were one of his major suitors. Fletcher really wanted him. When he couldn’t trade for him is when he pivoted back to Ristolainen.

I have some recollection of being held Hostage by a particular argument that stated his large dataset of lacking defensive outcomes couldn't be true because he throws hits.

Mac Kinnon absolutely owned him in the Memorial Cup final. His fate of slipping in the draft was sealed after that final.

I remember Risto said in an interview he was built for playoff hockey, then I saw this. Skinner's streak comes to an end in a month or so

Unless Skinner is moved to a non playoff team. Not sure if he had a NTC clause.

Oh, i agree completely. But the narrative of Seth Jones going #1 overall lived until draft day in certain circles. And i think that inflated his "worth" several years into his career

I do remember people thought Jones was better than Werenski (IAEC!) and I would just shake my head.

Jones was a top tier prospect in 2013 but he’s one of the guys that suffered from the skill infusion the league has seen over the last decade, especially on the blue line. He had a very good skill level for his era and combined with his size (he has a crazy wingspan too) and skating he was pretty much can’t miss. The bar for skill on the blueline has raised exponentially though and he’s probably bang average these days. I still think he’d probably be a useful defenseman outside of the shitshow in Chicago, but he’s already 30 so there’s plenty of downside also.

It’s also another reminder that when you think all else is equal (2025 draft says hello), take the forward. They just have a bigger impact on average.
