The terms "undeserved win" and "we had the better goaltending" often go hand in hand.

How often has the latter half of that statement been true this year? 3 or 4??
You’re so right. Pickard was really good, and we deserved a win like, as fans, with Skinner frequently making many of us want to pull our hair out.

Missed the game and just watched it on Oilers + (Oilers in 20 - what a great way to see all the commercial free best 20 minutes of a game!). Looks like we started slow and finished strong! Goaltending looked tight on both ends.

Take the win get some sleep and back at it tomorrow night!

To be fair to Skinner he doesn’t get to play almost exclusively against bottom 10 offences like Pickard does.
To be be fair, Stewart probably isn’t even the best goalie on the team named Skinner and the other one grew up figure skating not strapping on the pads.

.903. Make it so.

Set course for the Win system. Maximum warp.

Engage.

Where's all the chicken Littles?
They will be back after the next loss, tonight is all about the knob polishers

Didn’t get to see the game just the hilights, (thanks sn app for posting the scores for those of us hoping to watch the game after the fact) but it seems we were outplayed in the first half but rallied back. Nice play by Nuge in OT.

They were lucky Utah went to sleep after going up 2-0. Oilers were terrible 5v5, especially the top end. Top 6 centers need to be better in their own end, and team needs to take better care of the puck. PP was better but got pretty lucky on the Leon goal. But I liked that they changed it up a bit, worked some differed set ups and tried attacking from different angles. I still don’t like how much work they put into trying to open that seam to Draisaitl and keep forcing it to him even though teams aren’t giving it up at all.

Podkolzin seems to be gaining more confidence, he’s got a heavy shot and he can get it off quick, just needs to use it more.

Islands in the stream.
Welcome to the 2024/2025 season Nuge!

Great goal. Hopefully that gets him going.
Was gonna post this but got drunk instead. Figured Oilers would come back in this one, just had that feel to it. Overall not impressive to get these OTW against weak clubs but its still two points and the team won the game expending basically one period of effort. Team is a cheat code in OT 3 on 3 again and teams just terrified to play us in extra time. I have to remember its just regular season and style pts don't count. Just bag the two pts. Team seems mercenary in OT again. Basically is we get to OT we're bagging pts.

What a heater Drai is on. Wow.

Neat what happens when your goaltender has a save% that starts with a 9.
Stu Skinner has posted a .900 or better in half his games this season, including two of his past three.

Anyway...

Not a great game vs. Utah-whatever-the-hell-they're-called by Edmonton, but it was very much a 2022-23 Oilers' kind of win, wherein they didn't expend a great deal of effort for most of the game and were thoroughly outplayed, but suddenly bore-down for the power plays. This happened a lot against so-so clubs in 2021-22 and 2022-23 (though not so much last season). So, good to see the PP win them a game (or draw even, I guess, plus novelty-time), as in the long-ago halcyon days of 2022. Nuge was completely invisible all night (again) until the overtime goal when he suddenly channelled his inner Mark Messier.

Nice that Podkolzin bagged another one, and great that McDavid got his 2 points.

McDavid has 20 points over the past 9 games.

Against Colorado (which is a defensively porous club), I think the key is to get a ton of shots against them early. Will be tough, though.

Terrible game, but we are never good after an extended lay off.

Starting to potentially get concerned over Ekholm. This may be his last season until he really starts to fall off.

Stu Skinner has posted a .900 or better in half his games this season, including two of his past three.

First of all - You're aware this is literally not true, right? He's done this 7 times in 15 starts.

Screenshot_20241130-060242.png

Secondly - even if that was true - man that's a strange way to say Skinner only meets minimum acceptable standards half the time.

In those 7 games btw, we're 5-2-0. Add that to Pickard's record of 5-1-0 when he's above .900, and the Oilers are 10-3-0 when they get goaltending starting with a 9. That's a .769 points percentage, which would put us #1 in the league.

This also means we're 2-6-2 in 10 games getting below .900 save percentage, which is a .300 points percentage, and would put us last in the league by over 25%.

Stan - for the love of God get us a goaltender.

Pickard has a sv% over 900 6 out of 8 starts.

Skinner has a sv% over 900 6 out of 15 starts.

Not sure why Skinner has played as much as he has when he’s struggled this hard. I blame Schwartz and Jackson/Bowman/Knoblauch for allowing it to happen as much as Skinner. It doesn’t make sense.

Hopefully Skinner picks it up going forward.

Hell yeah Nuge! You deserve it!

The best thing about this game is I got to reconnect with self exclaimed 'Super Fan' @kevy9999 . Only appears when the Oilers are losing.
Nope you obviously do not pay attention. I comment often after a win. I critique the team and give compliments when they are warranted. A superfan is a crazy fan who acts over the top and never critiques their team and gets upset when other fans find fault. I mentioned after the second period that oilers played better but utah is fast abs won't quit. We got a good win but we need to get on a roll and at least get a point tonight. There is not one certain way a fanl should react or respond to wins. I don't get too excited and on to the next game. So no need to analyze how I react to a win because as I said I have been a fan longer than you. Oh and my life doesn't revolve around these boards so at 9 30 or 10 pm after game I have other stuff to do before bed. Not that it's any of your business 😁😁
