TSN is reporting that, you guessed it, they placed a lucky loonie secretly under the ice at the ACC before the game and they had tape of them getting it out.

So, the question is... was it Doan's goal... or the Loon that brought Canada the Gol--- er, Flower pot?

:)

Because we know that it had a major difference in the game...

?

You Sure?

I heard they taped six loonies under team canada's bench during the CBC broadcast. Each loony represents a Canada Cup/World Cup victories.

I dont mind them taping, hiding, burying loonies but we have to face the fact that one day they'll do the same thing and it wont work

Maybe its best to stop while ontop?

Right you are Ken!

This loonie thing is ridiculous. These idiots should learn that Rocky VI isn't necessariliy better than Rocky. I just can't wait until they insert a "lucky loonie" into every Toffee dounut nationwide.

I find this whole loonie business a bit hackneyed. Once was cool, but doing it everytime cheapens it.

My thoughts exactly.

Its gone from a great behind the scenes surprise story to more of a predictable sidenote.

You think? I heard the Canadian Tire guy put a lucky looney in his plumbing to prevent clogs.
haha. And nice avatar. You could also have him saying, "halfboards" or, "it all starts here with the goalie," or even my personal favourite, "stop the tape here, boys"

.....and Mark Madden's blood boils.:)

This years loonie RUINED the whole thing! The lucky loone should ONLY have been used once!!! Now the loonie can no longer become immortalized! It doesnt matter weather Canada had won or lost, the loonie thing now looks like a lousy fad by Canadian hockey rather than a legendary moment.

Stupid, stupid move.

Go Canada! :)

What if they didn't do it anymore and we lost? Then it would truly be a lucky loonie. But it's true, this is getting out of hand. Lucky loonies EVERYWHERE! I bet at the Olympics they had them in the pools but we choked, so no one ever hears about lucky loonies that didn't work. I dunno, just ranting. But selling them, marketing it as a fad?

It was a great story about the first time, the guy sneaking on the ice at Salt Lake to hide it, and no one knew about until much later. It was a beat-up loonie too, not a nice shiny one like Gretzky was holding.

Now CBC had a shot of like a dozen photographers waiting for the ice guy to dethaw the ice for the loonie. What a joke.

OK, it's not bad this time, but we should stop doing it now before it becomes a gimmick.
Yeah, we'd hate to have something like this turn into a crutch. Like, suppose some team digs the loony out during practice and nobody notices in time? The team could completely fall apart.

And, like, suppose Team Qatar became a hockey superpower by planting lucky dinars under the ice? That'd suck. What if dinars are luckier than loonies?

There's no alliteration, so it won't work. ;)

I carried I "lucky loonie" in my pocket whenever I flew last year and I never died in a plane crash ... so I believe it works.

The Lucky Loonie died when It did absolutly nothing on Marc-Andre Fluery's helmet. It has now been over used and is now too predictable like said. It had lure at the olympics because no one knew and it added a piece of Canada to a Rink the United States. Adding something Canadain in a Canadain rink proves nothing. 80% of the Stands probably had a damn loonie in his pocket. Maybe the Americans should start putting Lucky Nickels in the Ice. :shakehead
