Hey guys, on another board there is a discussion and i would like your opinion.

What would be the odds for a single game between Team Canada Junior 2014 and a top 10 NHL hockey team, assuming that the NHL team would not soft play them.

So your odds, and why.

Thanks !

lol they have no chance at all.

Would be close VS an AHL team.

They might have a chance to have a close game VS the Team Canada Spengler Cup team.

OP has a fundamental misunderstanding of puberty and size differentials. :sarcasm:

Seriously 100-0 team NHL. Not even close.

50-0 team AHL.

They'd even get beat bad by a good AHL team. There is a very big difference in the pace of play between juniors and pros (AHL).

Lol, as good as they are, not all these kids will even make the NHL. Top ten team??? lol The Oilers would destroy these guys! :)

I was wondering when this thread was going to pop this year...

They wouldn't stand a chance. Wait 5 years and then come back and check how many players on the Canadian roster (or the roster of the team that eventually wins the tournament) have actually established themselves as everyday NHL players... You will probably end up being kind of shocked.

Only 8 players on the winning US roster from 5 years ago have to this point established themselves as NHL regulars. At least a couple more could end up having decent NHL careers but we are still talking about guys who are pushing 25 and now playing in their 6th or 7th post draft season so the clock is definitely ticking.

The '05 Canadian junior team is considered by many to be the best ever, but even that roster had 10 guys on it who would never establish any kind of lengthy career in the NHL.

I remember a couple of years back the junior team played U of A (Golden Bears) in an exhibition game and lost 3-1. They were physically outmatched and got dominated.

The guys who were locks didn't play, and it was one of the first games in camp...but there's no way they could take an NHL team.

The US team plays very competitive games against college teams before the tourney. AHL teams would destroy them.

Hahahahaha.

I'm almost willing to bet a team of Bissonettes would beat a WJC team just due to the size factor. They're kids, they can have all the talent and the world but until they pack on the weight that comes in the early 20s, they'd get destroyed against even the bad NHL teams.

The 'men vs boys' thing would obviously be a huge factor but I think some (plenty?) people underestimate the gap in top to bottom talent between a NHL team and the Canadian (or American, or Russian, etc) junior teams.

If you built an NHL team out of all the players (as they are now) who made up the '10 US junior team IMHO the team would comfortably finish last in the league. I'm not even sure the '05 Canadian team would be all that good. The top half of the lineup would be pretty spectacular but the goaltending and bottom half would leave a lot to be desired.

It may very well be that it would be a blow out. But nevertheless, these games are BETTER hockey than that boring flipper-flopper hockey played in the NHL regular season. I really mean it. And "better" in the sense of more interesting, entertaining and beautiful.

What is the NHL nowaways but terrific pace and next to no space and time to CREATE anything, it kills combinations and skill for the most part.

Only way to save hockey is to change to hybrid rink in the NHL.

Thanks for your anwsers, but so far noboby seems to know what 'odds' mean. The question is not if NHL team would win. The question is, what odd would you give to such a game.

Team Canada a 20-1 underdog ? 50-1 ? 100-1 ? 1000-1 ? All the discussion is around that question, not around ''omg they would be destroyed".

Well.. a team like Edmonton they maybe have a chance.. lol.. or not. It would be a normal score like 5-2 for Edmonton

Literally men versus boys. It would be ugly.
