The year is 2020 and someone tells you what happens in the next 2 years. Which one are you most shocked about? This is not normal stuff

Crazy to look at the last 2 years right?

1) Habs get inserted into the play in playoffs and upset the Pens.

2) Habs get inserted into the Canadian division and reach a cup finals (upsetting the Leafs, Jets, Knights and Tampa beats us with their depth).

3) Bergevin and Timmins are finally fired. Molson hires a Boston boy to be top of our management.

4) Our golden boy Ducharme becomes one of the worse coaches we ever had.

5) Price and Weber's career ends sooner than expected

6) Danault leaves us, KK signs offer sheet.

7) Our golden boy Gallagher becomes an anchor contract.

8) MSL becomes the coach of the Habs. MSL!

9) Habs get 1st OA pick in 2022. Cup Finals to last place.

10) Romanov is traded for Dach. K Dach!

11) We acquire 3 extra 1st round picks

12) Suzuki on his way to be a pt/game player or more. Caufield showing 40+ goal scoring threat.

Lucky #13) Habs go from cup finals, last place, to making playoffs... TBD? :sarcasm:

I don't know if it's the biggest surprise, but it's the most important.

Kind of like taking the biggest dump you've ever taken that was making you feel nauseous for so long. You knew it was eventually going to happen, but it was so debilitating until it did, and you still are amazed at how good life is without all that shit in the system.

I just look back and it's a bit on the shocking side. I'd pick MSL as our coach. Who would have predicted that.

Think I would agree with this top 4. I had 8 and 2 very close. MSL as our coach? When I first heard of that story, I said, that is BS.

Bergevin/Timmins being fired is not that much of a shock. More about it taking longer than expected. However, hiring Gorton who is a Boston boy who can't speak French makes it a bit of a shock to me.

I mean the Western Conference trophy was the only team award that escaped the Habs all those years 🤣

Literally impossible to predict.

You know when you put these things on a list, it’s actually surprising how many great things have happened to the team since Covid. I remember right before they shut down the league in 19/20 and we were about to miss the playoffs for a 4th straight year, the team just felt so hopeless with its lack of direction. Since then we got the most unlikeliest of cup runs, new staff, and a new young team that doesn’t look like it’s being coached by someone from the 80’s.

7% interest rates, the self immolation of the European energy sanctions on Russia, that we're all pretending COVID isn't a thing, agitprop in the MSM for nuclear war, and on the bright side, the fact I got married and had a baby, and I have data from the James Webb Space Telescope on my computer.

I do like what's happened with the Habs.

Least surprising #7 I think pretty much everyone knew on day one that Gallagher kind ruined is legacy because that contract would be a big anchor…

We could not have asked for a better 2 year road. Hopefully the next two years are on par. If so, we will be a very strong team for the next decade.

Once upon a time, decades ago, a friend of mine showed me a Panthera tour tape on VHS where the drummer had to call the ambulance before (or after, can't rmbr) the show because he had a huge abscess on the butt and couldn't sit to play gigs because it hurt too much. He had this for months as it got bigger, up to the size of a golf ball. The emergency worker popped it with a needle and it made this huge serpentine of pus paste coiling into a neverending mass, so disgusting that to this day, I still can't believe they decided to include it in the tour tape. The drummer was so incredibly relieved and IIRC, cried afterwards.

That's the kind of relief Bergevin's departure has been. Like popping some monster butt zit that's been troubling you for years.

#8 easily

Nobody saw him being a head coach of a NHL team 2 years ago. He even declined being an AHL head coach in 2017 saying he wanted to focus on his son's playing team.

2 obviously
My slightly ocd friend who lives in my brain with all my other imaginary friends tells me the odds of a finals appearance are theoretically 1/16 and winning 1oa pick 1/32.

I would have to factor in the butterfly effect of the Rivet trade and relativity, but I will have a gummy and go gardening instead; I took the day off.

I got one that will trump both #2 and #8...

Finishing 8th last and winning the lottery (again). Panthers finish 12th last and we get the 2nd lottery from that.

Both Bedard and Fantilli :scared:

2, 6, 8, 10 are by far the most surprising. I would have never seen the playoff run coming. For 6, Danault leaving isn't surprising as UFAs leave teams all the time and the PP usage storyline was bubbling for a while, but Kotkaniemi going with an offer sheet was genuinely shocking. St. Louis I would have never seen coming in 2020, and didn't see it coming the day before it happened. Romanov for Dach would have felt insane based on name recognition value at the time.
