Obviously, not playing in the finals.

But for me, going through next season and every time anyone does anything good, or they win a few games, or Igor gets a shutout - "yeah but, in the playoffs..." Over and over.

This has been a great run. Some bumps in the road and maybe a wall in Tampa, but hell it's been fun after years of nothing.

Sure there are changes to be made. Players to get rid of and holes to fill. But the future is bright and the team should be a strong contender for awhile.

"But in the playoffs" what? They lost to the 2x defending champions in a minimum of 6 games? In their first playoff coming out of the rebuild?

It's difficult now with the series still going and the heartbreak of being up 2-0 on Tampa (and 2-0 in G3) but at the end of the day this was a very positive season for this team. Yes, there's kinks to work out and there's no guarantee they'll be back in the Conference Final again soon, but this is a season we should all be able to hang our hats on as fans.

This is erroneous. No matter what happens in this series, the playoffs were a huge success. And these guys will be known as playoff performers - Zib, Kreider, Copp, Chytil, Laf, Motte, Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Trouba, and Shesterkin. The rest have something to prove, but that list are known playoff performers at this point. Add on top of that Goody and Blais who came in as cup winners and playoff performers. Resign Copp and Motte, let Strome, Vatrano walk and lets kick the can harder next season. Don't think they're dead yet, but this post is dead wrong.

The worst part for me would be:

-Having seen a group of youngsters rise to the occasion and find themselves. Would hate to see Laffy & Chytil turn into stars in this league.
-Knowing that our entire group has gained invaluable experience which could lead to us having a MUCH better shot in future playoffs
-Still having the best goalie in the world, who by the way now has multiple 7 game series under his belt
-Knowing we have mutiple young prospects who may be ready to come in and help this team get even better
-Seeing K'Andre Miller be an absolute wizard, and knowing that he's not even in his prime yet
-Having proven that this squad absolutely will NOT quit, great culture and team leadership
-Knowing we have the best open ice hitter in the NHL who has the ability to change a playoff series

Probably more but that's what I got for now.

Agreed with this. Definitely outperformed my expectations at the start of the season. All good things.

I think I know what TominNC is feeling that you're not getting maybe. It's like you're playing your videogame and close to getting to the big boss and you've run out of lives and have to start over.

With next season starting normally first week of October, it's going to be a quick off-season, and they are getting right back to it.

Not only that, it's going to be looked at as a fraudulent run to the ECF by other fans bc of Domingue and the Crosby and Freddie Anderson injuries.
It's what fans do to cope and whine when it comes to Pitt. Crosby should have only missed 1 game. They held him out of game 6 when he could have played so that's their problem. Rangers had injuries too, Lindgren missed time. Mott and Goodrow missed a lot of time. Raanta was every bit as good as Anderson and had a .922 save %. I don't want to hear it. Actually the fans that can gripe about an injury are Tampa missing Point for the entire series.

"but in the playoffs" Really? The Rangers are 1 of 3 teams currently still playing and Shesty and most of the kids have played well. That younger core has shown they could play when the games get to this level. The only individual that has been a disappointment is Panarin and I still think he has played with an injury. It sucks getting eliminated but only 1 team wins the cup. PS - It's still not over.

No its realistic. If we lose tomorrow or in game 7 this would be the worst part for me.
I would easily pay the spots from end of 2nd round to end of first to get our kids the experience of playing in the ECF against a veteran double stanley cup champion team in an (at least 6) game series. That alone will impact this organization far more than those spots. This is how winning culture is earned.

Huge success this season. Nothing to be ashamed of. Three teams remain:

Avalanche, probably the best team of today.

Lightning, perhaps the team of yesterday.

Rangers, the team of tomorrow.

It's fitting that if the Rangers lose, it's to the defending champions in a competitive series.

Worst part is the amount of people who feel a series is over after 3, 4 and 5 games. Why don’t we believe in THIS team instead of penning letters about next season. This team has won how many elimination games this post season? Well here comes their first of this series. It isn’t over until the fat Maroon sings.

The worst thing? Getting eliminated by a team that isn't better and feeling like they've been jobbed by the officiating.

It would be a lot easier to take 4 losses by multiple goals.

Aint over yet. They got to dig deep, but these guys have shown all year that they don't give up. They look tired, for sure, but I'm not giving up on them. LGR!

Totally agree. Game 4 is honestly the only non winnable game this whole series. 3 an 5 Tampa got the super late goals and the Rangers did not. Series is way more even than it looks.

I think some of you are misunderstanding the first part of OP's post based on your responses.

Either way, we're not done yet and I agree, @TominNC , we have the start of something really good for years to come. Absolutely love what I'm seeing from our young core.

BRING IT SATURDAY NIGHT BOYS! :)

The worst part, for me, is that even though no one really expected us to be here and this year is an unequivocal success...you never know when or if you'll be back. I remember after losing to the Kings, I thought, "Henrik is in his prime, we have a great core, we'll be back in no time." And then, we weren't. We blow it the next couple years and then bam, it's a rebuild. We never got back. Henrik never got back.

As great as this year has been, and as promising as the future looks, you just never know. That's the worst part for me. You pack your bags, go home, and hope you can make it back to this point--and farther--but don't actually know if it will happen.

Yea I totally agree with this 2015 I thought for sure they would make it back to the finals and it didn't happen and from there they never even made it back to this point until 7 years later. It's one thing if they got blown out in this series, but to go up 2-0 and have at least a lead of some sort in every game but Game 4 it's very frustrating to be in this position. Hopefully if they get a lead on Saturday they can hold it this time.
