The wave

We just saw the infamous wave happen in the Canada-USA game, and to add insult to injury, ole-chants as well! OMG, right!? My question is, why is it that everytime it happens I see a LOT of comments like "**** you with your wave". I always thought It's just the too-cool-for-it-all -types, but I'm starting to feel It's too prevalent to be just that.

To be clear, I'm not a fan or an advocate of the wave, I don't care either way. I just want to know why a lot of people do?

Anytime I get to take part in a venue as small as an nhl arena (more common at ballparks and soccer pitches imo) it's always amazing. On tv it looks like fun aswell. Don't understand the opposition to it, but everyone's got an opinion.

I've heard wave haters say that it means fans aren't paying attention to the game (i.e. same as being on a cell phone at a game type of thing), and that it's gimmicky/childish/played-out.

Ahh..I get it now. The whole thing is related to jinxes and fairies and such.

That actually makes some sense, if the wave's messing with your own concentration on the game...never thought of that. Your post, however, seems to suggest people being annoyed about other people being just casual fans, which would be, well, Pejorative Slured!

Ya I find the hate silly although I guess it could be distracting if you just want to watch the game and everyone around you is doing the wave. It usually only goes on for 2mins or so though.

Give me the wave over those thunder sticks anytime. If you're in a section with a throng of little kids with thunder sticks, the game is basically ruined for you.
