While that's true, if we lose to Bal tonight behind Berrios and his 7.5 road ERA this season, we could be out of a wild card spot entirely by Friday.
Frankly the tough division excuse is old. Yankees play in the same division and they have been better.

Who’s making excuses? It’s a fact.. and the jays have the third best record in the AL right now.

It’s close, and a losing skid could derail it, but slides happen though a long season. Let’s ease off jumping from the cliff until September.

Besides it’s about getting hot at the right time anyway.

Yankees are blowing bigger chunks than Toronto right now. Too bad, Jays could have actually gotten closer than 10 games back by now. Their offence is struggling, their bullpen is blowing leads but nobody wants to talk about that. Only Jays have flaws, the other teams are perfect.

Not sure why he was around for the draft and trade deadline, but better late than never I suppose.

It's a wonder he managed to hang on for that long. Pretty much everything Avila touch turned to shit to the point the Tigers are now looking at a Sabres-ish rebuild of their rebuild.

The guy got basically nothing out of the returns he got on all the core players he shipped out (JD, Kinsler, Verlander and Castellanos)

All of his "big" free agent moves ended in disaster (Jordan Zimmermann) or well on their way to being one (Baez, E-Rod)

Other trades he made that made little to no sense (shipping out Issac Parades for Austin Meadows, only for the former to be a pretty decent contributors for the Rays)

Other trades he didn't make that made no sense (like your shiny bullpen you chose to not sell on despite being nowhere close to contention)

Absolutely nothing of value out of his draft picks. Reilly Greene looks like he might be the one to buck the trend but everyone else has been complete busts or hurt. Torkelson tanking hard in the majors and now struggling in the minors definitely doesn't help this narrative.

Ironically, the best move he made was trading his son. That's the only trade he ever really won lol.

A tale of two halves so far.

Since the All-Star Break, they've gone 7-12.

Exactly this

Ok, so the Jays are 60-50. They have 52 games left. If they go 32-20 over the remaining games, they will finish with 92 wins. How likely do you think that is?

Scoreboard hasn't been great tonight. Need the Dodgers to come back here

AL wild card race is a massive clusterf***. The Orioles hold the tiebreaker over the Rays, so they're currently in a WC spot. There could legitimately be a 5+ way tie for the WC spots and AL Central title at the end of the season lmao. Jays better avoid chaos and secure top WC

It is a fact but an excuse too. We aren't the only team in the AL East

Both the Leafs and Jays have won the same number of series recently as the number of hockey related posts that should be in this thread

If you would’ve told me before the season that after 110 games theyd have the 3rd best record in the AL…I would’ve been more than happy

people need to chill

The fact that Toronto is the third best team in the AL with a record of 60-50 shows how mediocre the AL is this year outside of the top two teams.

The Blue Jays aren’t a bad team by any means, but they should be better at this point. A number of our guys aren’t as good this year as they were last year. That’s a concern, as is our pitching. The fact that this team did not acquire a starter at the deadline is very puzzling, unless the prices were just ridiculously high.

Honestly, I don’t see the Jays as a legitimate WS contender this year, unless they can really get things going on the right track. They show promise at times, but then fall back to earth. Then again, as long as you make the playoffs, you have a chance, so you never know.

Amen. This guy is hilarious. Defends Dubas who is a train wreck but somehow bashes this front office, which is doing a bang up job with this team. I’m glad they didn’t overpay at the deadline.
Yes but Dubas has passed all the ‘tests’
Can you claim the same about the Jays Front Office?

This is pretty much where I am. The bats are solid and I think come playoff time a Manoah/Gausman/Stripling/Berrios rotation is more than acceptable but I just can't see this bullpen getting through four series without blowing up at some point.

This team hasn't really gotten to enjoy their new depth yet, basically right when Merrifield+Bass+White joined the team, Springer+Stripling+Mayza joined the injured list.

Next 20 games strength of schedule for wildcard bubble teams.

Seattle has a very soft upcoming schedule.

Adding onto the above with the fact that all the moves they made between the end of '15 and getting KO'd by Cleveland in '16 (Happ over Price, signing Saunders, not giving long term deals to Bautsita/Edwin, Liriano trade) were bang on.

Then it was very clearly time for a rebuild since that team was old and you never build a core through free agency and that's what happened. The real shame was Rogers still wanted to contend which put them in limbo for an extra season.

Even though the Price contract was a mistake, I always wondered how those 2016 and 2017 seasons would've went with him still in his prime, 2016 especially. You figure with Price the Jays win the division instead, how much further do they go with him instead of Happ in 2016? But yeah Shapkins made moves with long-term intentions in mind, for good reason.

I hope everyone is on board with the immediate firing of all staff and management when this team misses the playoffs by a game again

This is pretty disgusting to witness.
Not me. I’m happy with everything they’ve done for the most part with the major exception being keeping montoyo around way way too long. I think they’ll need to move a core piece in the off season to send a clear message. One of Gurriel or Teo is who I would expect to go
