My hope with Merrifield is that he was just putting in time this year in KC. Based on his comment about getting vaccinated if he was on a contender, I wonder if he simply wasn't putting in the effort. The move to a contending team may awaken him. Or it may not. As usual, I could be wrong.

Don't get the Merrifield deal. Don't even think he starts in our optimal lineup...
If he replaces Bradley Zimmer... I'm fine with it. I can't stand having a position player (even a fielder as outstanding as Zimmer) who flat out can't hit. You could pinch hit for him with a pitcher FGS!

Not really surprising. It's not that i don't like the deals but the team needed more that that to get out of the American league. Starting pitchers gonna be a problem in playoffs as well as 8th innings. They are okay against the weak teams but against the big boys i don't have much hope personally.

Playoffs is where our starting pitching won't be a problem.

No 5th starter so we don't have to deal with Kikuchi.

Manoah, Gausman, Berrios is an excellent rotation in the playoffs. And if Stripling keeps it up he's more than fine and you can piggy back him and White.

Merrifield and the rest of the Royals comments 2 weeks ago makes me think he's the type of guy who'd say yes he'll get vaccinated and then not get vaccinated to get a bunch of time off because he's lazy

Those seem like a couple of nice major league players. White seems capable of starting in the future. 4 more years of control too if he's something significant.

Berrios will need to pitch better than he is doing atm. He's been more than average. Against the Yankees 7 games in a row he'll have to be MUCH better. Gausman too.

Merrifeld is better than Zimmer, no?

He's more versatile and more likely to bounce back. Zimmer is really just a late inning CF and pinch runner with nothing else to his game. Merrifield isn't really a great CF but is capable of playing pretty much any defensive position, at least, adequately.

The trade allows them to dump Zimmer without losing much while gaining even more versatility and insurance in-case of an injury anywhere else.

Well they should be able to play the some WC games the weekend before meaningful hockey games start. That’s all we need, anyway.

Feels about exactly what I expected tbh - Couple of young controllable pitchers no one had on their board, a utility infielder and a high leverage arm. If the Jays are healthy, there is an AS caliber player at basically every fielding position, and our playoff rotation is as good as anyone's. BP help and rotation depth was the issue, and that's exactly what we got.

I actually think White can go 6 if need be so he's our 5th at worst and then possibly our 4th at playoff time if he pitches really well.

Bah thats a legit garbage deadline performance.

Multiple actual interesting young talents given away for a bunch of bottom roster slop that might not even be an upgrade.
