Like, WTF do they need him for? They have Cole, Cortez, Severino (who apparently thought he was going to be ready in a couple weeks, now on IL to mid-September), Taillon, Monty and just traded for Montas.
There's your answer. Severino is probably in worse shape than everyone knows.

Would rather not face a threesome of Cole, Cortes and Lopez in a playoff series.

Because they're the Yankees and they've been doing this for decades. It's an F you that's why type of thing.

Well, it was Severino himself that said he thought he would be ready in a few weeks and is pissed at the Yankees for putting him on the 60-day IL, ha. But it is possible his comeback does not go as planned.

I have a bad feeling that I'm going to hate the Syndergaard trade. LIke Zulueta + Gabby Martinez for Syndergaard + Iglesias at full price kind of hate it.

Has always been the case sadly. I remember when Ricky Ledee was over-hyped to death and was used in a package to acquire David Justice.
I remember the Clemens deal. He asked to be dealt to New York so he'd be closer to his home in Texas. You don't need to be a geography expert to know Toronto is closer than New York. The Jays got absolutely hosed in that deal.

Lopez is gonna cost a fortune (and rightfully so).

I don't get what the fascination with Lopez is. He really hasn't been very good the past ~two months and his velocity is down this year.

I mean he's still "good", but he looks like Berrios. He's really not a front-of-the rotation starter or anything like that.

1995 - Tino Martinez to the Yanks for Sterling Hitchcock and Russ Davis.. Davis was a completely overhyped dud. Hitch was a middling starter.. Tino was a stud in NY

You're paying for the team control. 2+ years of control on a #2/#3 starter has value. And Berrios got a pretty good haul back at the time.

For me it is one of two things:

1) He can grow an absolutely outstanding moustache goatee combination. Real ace stuff on his face.

2) He smiles like a kindergartner. Very endearing.
