Another former player Jerry Hairston Jr. follows Will Middlebrooks and says Jays have been too quiet.

Does MLB TV do a trade day show? Without that former Redsox player. I cant stand him whoever he is.

Ask the room. Many mentioned him.
Yeah but imo Quintana doesn’t move the needle at all. Kikuchi is as good or better than Quintana

It definitely is weird. Either they haven't been willing to match the market price or they have something bigger they are hoping to pull off before moving on to plan B. Based off precedent, i'd say its the latter

Realistically the Padres entry into the playoffs is as a WC? They won’t finish above LA. Is that right? Think its bad playing in the Yankees division.

Well Quintana has a 1.27 WHIP and 3.5 ERA compared to Kikuchi at 1.5 WHIP and a 4.6 ish ERA... they are not the same. Not that it matters now.

Glad Quintana is gone. That dude has been garbage for the better part of 4 seasons and i didn't want to give up anything of value for him.

So looking at the developments of tonight;

Skubal: left game with arm fatigue. Could be nothing, could be something worse like a UCL injury. Detroit was already asking for a hefty price so i can't imagine he goes anywhere now.

Rodon: Having a phenomenal year, but the Giants for some reason aren't doing the logical thing by selling off. They might be doubly screwing themselves here given a) they can't compete and b) Rodon has an opt out that he is almost guaranteed to use this winter meaning the Giants might lose him for nothing. Could be the reason why a team like Toronto is leery to make a move on him.

Montas: traded

Quintana: traded

There's time left but that starting pitching market is starting to look mighty thin. I'm going to hope the insiders murmuring about how the Jays have a titanic move coming from behind the curtain because being so quiet doesn't really make much sense.

I honestly have a feeling we’re all in on Soto lol or maybe I’m starting to lose it

I'm not falling into that trap

I'm not going to delude myself into believing Shatkins are about to put on the big boy pants and make a deal the likes of which hasn't been seen ever in this franchise's history and then be pissy when it inevitably doesn't happen.

That being said, i will run to the nearest sports store ala Sonic the Hedgehog to buy a Soto jersey if it does happen.

Ever think we would sign major free agents like Gausman, Springer and Ryu before we did?

Not to mention pay up the prospects for Berrios and give him a 9 figure extension.

I'm not gonna expect something big just because they have, but they've shown they're willing and able. I won't be surprised at all if they do something big.

Ryu? No. That move caught me by surprise. A generally still rebuilding team landing a big ticket FA is usually relatively rare. Even more so when its the Jays being the team in question.

After Ryu though the narrative changed. Springer i was optimistic on as the closer it got to him signing, the more insiders tied him to the Jays and only the Jays. Still didn't 100% believe it would happen but i was more of "yeah, i could see that" rather than dismissing it.

Gausman i fully believed would sign once it was rumored. The Jays were on the upswing and Gausman was a guy just looking for long term stability after his re-emergence in San Fran. Plus they needed a Robbie Ray replacement. (I will also willingly admit i wasn't a huge fan of the signing because of his relatively rough second half last year)

Shatkins really doesn't get enough credit for the culture change they've brought since taking over. Went from what was a relatively irrelevant team in the baseball landscape to an almost preferred destination.

The Berrios trade was also a bit of a "woah really?" partly because i was a fan of his game....i Definitely did not expect the extension to follow shortly after.

Let me just clalrify; I don't doubt Shatkins ability to upgrade, i just doubt the big names being thrown around because those are franchise altering moves and they generally don't come together over the span of a couple weeks.

I'm just staying up for another 4 or 5 hours on Twitter, ha. I feel good about our chances to do something exciting.

Anyone find it strange that not a single peep from any media? Like not a word on any updates on who we’re going after etc. not a word from Washington. Everything is coming from SD, STL, LA

Even our own media no one is really saying anything everything seems hush hush

Ehhhhhh. Better than Quintana but not by a lot.

I thought i read something earlier in the season where Thor had serious problems with his velocity and couldn't get guys to swing and miss anymore?
