So the place I've gone apple picking since I was in diapers started charging a $2 per person ADMISSION fee to pick apples this year! I've never heard of such a thing in my life.

A father, mother, and 3 kids, and it will cost you $10 just for the "privilege" of being their free labor and paying to pick apples in your orchard. I left on principal. I know about 3,481 other places in Hunterdon County and around there to pick apples.
I've actually talked to the owner of an orchard in Randolf, and he said he actually has to charge significantly more for Pick Your Own than if they pick and sell them.

It seems people will grab an apple, not like the looks of it of it's not absolutely perfect, then toss it on the ground, significantly decreasing the yield.

Kind of makes sense.

The farm I went to today also charged $2 admission to those over 5.

I'm not happy about it but it was a 45 minute drive and their apples are delicious.

Melick's?

Greedy bastards. A Mom, Dad, and 3 kids are out $10 before you pick an apple? Ridiculous.

Times are a changing. There's a few places near me that charge an admission fee before you even actually go pick which is just silly to me.

It's especially silly when I can get local fresh apples cheaper per pound even before the greedy "admission fee" right in the grocery store! I can get an extra 2.4 pounds of apples for that stupid $2 fee x 2 people.

Details still sketchy at this point, but apparently active shooter(s) at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas during a country music festival. Flights being held up as a result as well.

In a parallel universe, I would have been in Vegas tonight for the Sharks/Knights preseason game if my friend had wanted to go for her birthday.

Seems like multiple shooters at multiple casinos. The videos coming out from outside Mandalay Bay are really terrifying.

Every time one of these shootings happen, the media always says it's automatic gunfire, but like lupus, it's never automatic gunfire. But listening to the video from M.B. I think this is automatic, like something small caliber like an Uzi or an M10 or something, but this sounds very different.

EDIT: Hearing now the shots came from way up high, so that might be why it sounds so odd/muffled.

The pics I'm seeing on TWTR are making me sick to my stomach. LVPD needs to take these pieces of filth out.

Just chaos, it's amazing that there aren't more deaths with that amount of people and what looked and sounded like was shots being fired from above. Obviously we don't know how many deaths this will end up being but with so many shots being fired it's amazing more weren't killed right away.

Police confirmed 20+ dead and 100+ injured. Just terrible.

It should have been a fun week coming up in Vegas with their first team and now it's nothing but sadness this week. Hopefully all the injured survive and make quick recoveries.

absolutely automatic gunfire. shooter ID'ed as 64 yr old Stephen Paddock. Deadliest mass shooting in US history.

I think we're going to learn the murderer was using those 100 round drums made out of Korea. The fire rate was crazy. He's already burning in hell, like is typical of these deranged sicko cowards, he killed himself. Now hopefully CBS, CNN, etc... doesn't lavish attention on him and turn him into a superhero and spawn copycat killers. These psychopaths should have their name reported for 24 hours and then the media should STOP providing them any further "attention" and just report of the facts of the case/aftermath.

It's pretty much the same reason that they charge you to get on a beach or to park your car at a stadium.

People are pigs.

My brother was at the Vegas Knights preseason game last night, so you can imagine the feeling when I woke up this morning with a notification on my phone that a mass shooting had occurred right on the strip. Luckily his hotel is very north of the main strip, and doesn't like country music, so he wasn't in the area at the time of the shooting.

This whole thing is just horrible.

:surrenderI give up. The world sucks.

Every year my wife asks me what I want for my birthday

Every year I tell her, "I'm not greedy, just one of these, life size and fully functioning"

I'm seriously considering the next best thing, which is moving out west to a fairly rural part.

I've been to Utah and Colorado, which are nice, I've been to Nevada, and I'm not a fan.

I really want to check out Montana, and especially Idaho & Wyoming. East ID / West WY looks pretty nice in pictures.

WY, MT and ID it's the most wonderful place on Earth :) stick a pin right in the middle of Yellowstone and you'll hit Yellowstone lake. Draw a 200 mile circle and anywhere around there is awesome.

Wyoming will eventually become my permanent residence.

My old man just got back from Whitefish MT, just outside Glacier National Park, and said he would move there tomorrow.

Idaho and Wyoming are filled with some lunatics. Must be the fresh air.

My wife and I would move to the Finger Lakes if we could find jobs in our fields that pay as well as they do here.

I don't think there is any place that pays as well as here.

But if by some stroke of a Congressional pen we can no longer deducted State income tax... I'm gone the very next day.

That's pretty much where I want to look at. Here's a GOOG maps of the area in question.

I think it would be pretty awesome to buy a place right at the start of the mountains that backs up to the government land, but is still within an hour of so of a decent size town and great skiing. And there's the rub, how do you find a job out there? The woman is a teacher, so it would be easy for her, but I'm in finance and it might not be so easy.

At any rate, I definitely want to check out the outskirts of both Idaho Falls, ID and Bozeman, MT as they both seem to check all those boxes I mentioned. We absolutely love SLC and Park City too, but the problem in Utah is it's ironically difficult to buy a decent chunk of land, and if I'm moving out west, I'm sure not living in a development.

I might of mentioned this before but I lot of people refer to Bozeman as Boz-Angles. Kinda gives you the idea of the attitudes there. Lol. I personally like it but some of, maybe alot of, the Western feel is glossed over. It feels very suburban. West Yellowstone MT is a neat little town. Very touristy during the Yellowstone season. I love Ennis MT, small main Street with the Madison river flowing right through town. They have a distillery too! Victor and Driggs Idaho are nice too. You can find what you're looking for...work on the hand?

If I knew of a way work and make even a similar income out there I'd would be there. I tried to work remotely from out there and it was impossible. I needed to be on site much more than I expected.

Whitefish might well be worth checking out too, they have a fabulous ski resort there that gets practically no traffic due to the relative remoteness of that area.

In 2016, I explored Utah, in 2017 I explored Colorado. So in 2018 I need to go to either ID, MT, or WY, as each of these recent ski trips has also served the dual purpose of "Expedition Escape New Jersey" reconnaissance research.

Dont think that's what I'm looking for.

Definitely want to look in that nook, seems cool how they're surrounded by mountains. Might be a little too far from things though. Ideally, I'd like to be 1 hour from a Costo / Panera, Walmart, etc.... LOL I'll live as rural as can be, as long as civilization's an hour or so away.

I'm not familiar with that term, what does it mean?
