The "system" Islanders Point Blank Story

system changed when Cronin joined the staff .He did wonders for the Pkill but I'm not sure what other aspects of the system he may have influenced.

even while watching a game listening to opposing teams feed during the past few seasons they'd refer to the isles as a fast team and I wondered what they heck they were seeing that I wasnt .

this team rarely cashes in turnovers anymore wheras the non Cronin team did .

He's just a mess of systems that don't mesh well together. The breakout is all about the stretch pass, getting into the offensive zone quickly. Then if the entry isn't clean, they dump, but revert into a low pressure forecheck, with a 1-1-3 trap in the neutral zone. That trap gives too much space to the opposition and allows them to gain the red line, dump it in, and apply lots of pressure on our defense. Since our breakout is about the stretch pass, the defenders have limited options to break out with and cough the puck up. They feed into one another, compounded the negative issues this team has. The team did well offensively when they countered attacked after creating turnovers. They're too passive now, because they want to limit scoring opportunities against. It has the opposite effect.

Short term though. The PK is a hot mess this season. Nothing currently works. We only have the wins we have because of goaltenders showing up and playing above average some nights.

I think it's too complicated of a system. Year 1, it was a dumpster fire. Year 2, same players, it was excellent. Year 3, some new players and it's bad, not quite dumpster fire level. It takes too long for the players to learn it and build chemistry with their partners. There isn't a real benefit to the system if it takes that long to learn.
