The World Junior Hockey Championship has become the Stanley Cup of junior hockey.

^This statement came from the official IIHF 2005 WJHC page. When I read that I kinda tilted my head and raised my eye brow.

I'm just curious of people here think this is a fair comparison. Or if it would be more appropriate to call the Memorial Cup and/or the NCAA championship the "Stanley Cup".

Well, I'd say winning a World Junior gold would be far more memorable than winning a Memorial Cup, so I think its a pretty good comparison.

Maybe not the best, but there is far more prestige witht he WJCs than the Memorial Cup.

Not a chance.

Canada, Finland, and to a lesser extent, Russia are the only countries who really care about this tournament.

The players all want to win, but as far as fans go, you won't see this tournament on TV in some of European countries involved.

Memorial cup is more like Stanley cup, and WJC is like Olympics!!!!
