Remember last year when Slaf was the king of Montreal, and management knocked it out of the park with that choice?

I miss those days, but they'll return eventually.

Slaf will develop into a very serviceable player for the habs. But lets be honest, it was not the best year to pick first. Hes not in the top tier of first picks

Too early to tell in my book, if he can figure everything out and reach his potential, he could be a very dominant player in this league, he'll just do it differently than other 1st overalls.

He's not your prototypical 1C or 1D that are usually drafted in that slot.

Shane Wright: 7 goals, 6 assists , +4, with 13 min ice time.
Slaf: 2 goals, 13 assists, - 9, with 16:50 ice time.

SLAF also played most of the season on the 1st line. Yikes.
Wright is shooting at 30%, I don’t see you writing it in your stats.

Slaf also didn’t play most of the year on the 1st line.

He played 6 games with Caufield and Suzuki and had 6 points in that time span. Then missed 3 games for injury and came back, never played with them again. Got another 3 games on the ‘’first’’ line with Suzuki and Dach. So 8-9 games out of 26 isn’t ‘’most of the year’’.

As I understand now It’s Wright for the small sample size, after it’s gonna be back to Slaf, after Gauthier will be better because he’ll have a small point streak, back to Slaf. Great way of over analyzing young players development.

I don’t see Slaf as a superstar but he’ll be a really good player. But we also got the best player in that draft with Hutson. Add in Engstrom and Beck and that might be our best draft since 1984.

He's not going to be winning any scoring titles, but he can most definitely make a major impact in this league and for this team if he reaches his potential.

A fully baked Slafkovsky would be very hard to deal with for the opposition.

1st line quality player. That what I expect. No scoring titles, no Harts. But a really good solid player.

I immediately noticed some jump in his game when he was put back with Suzuki. I really hope they leave him there.

That kinda pisses me off to be honest with you, was he dogging it because he wasn't happy he got separated from that line? If so, that's a problem.

Or was he just buoyed because he got reunited to play with the only gifted game shaped players we have on our team?

Either way, he hasn't really been good all year.

No, he’s been playing better since a couple of games, his ‘’jump’’ didn’t just appear after being put with Suzuki and Caufield it was just more evident because when he does something those guys could help turning the plays actually into something.

He’s definitely played injured for part of the year. That’s one factor. And Dach hasn’t helped either. He’s been a black hole for whoever has been with him.

Putting Slaf back is the right move. He’s still a kid. It’s too much to expect him to carry that line.

Don't think Marty was expecting him to carry anything just to help support both Dach and Laine as they come back from their problems.

I guess that now falls on Newhook.

That said, they could probably use his speed as both are terribly slow at the moment, though Dach is somewhat looking better in that regard recently.

The most engaged I saw Slaf this season is when he was playing with Gally. They should pair him together. Gally is so intense, Slaf had no choice to be more agressive

As I said the only 2 offensively gifted game shaped players on this team right now.

This team is barren of much skill at the moment.

I don't mind him playing on the 1st line, especially with his success last year. He has been playing with more urgency in his game the last little.. but I feel he was noticeably skating harder when he got reunited last night. He's a very heady player.

100% agree with you on this.

Let the kid play hockey with the two best players on the team and enjoy himself.

Laine will find himself just fine, and Dach well he’s going to have to figure it out. He’s even looked bad with Suzuki and Caufield, which is something that doesn’t happen much with Slaf.

Hughes is going to need to address the 2C issue sooner than later, I’m afraid.

I agree it's great for Slaf, it's just that both Nick and Cole have been humming along just fine without him, they're both on pace to smash both their career highs in goals (Caufield) and points (Suzuki). While others remain stagnant, I don't blame Marty one bit for trying to help out the 2nd line.

I do understand though it's also good for Slaf to have some success as well. So it's fine he's back on the 1st line. However the 2nd line remains a major issue.

The start of the season for Caufield started with burrying Slaf’s great passes, then Slaf got injured and never got back together. He needs more of the stability than both Suzuki and Caufield but it’s normal.

I don’t see Slaf as a superstar but he’ll be a really good player. But we also got the best player in that draft with Hutson. Add in Engstrom and Beck and that might be our best draft since 1984.

The 2022 draft has some ways to go before being as good as 2007 with Subban, Pacioretty and McDonaugh.

Even with Hutson being the best out of all those players (2007+2022), not sure Engstrom-Beck-Slaf will beat out Pacioretty+McDonaugh
