In a shootout, if a goalie sees a player “drop his stick”, I imagine it would likely throw them off.

Maybe, like, once. Then the book would be out--"When Kakko skates in at approximately three miles per hour, he's going to bounce his stick off the ice then go backhand." I mean, again, it's cute, and shows some great hand-eye and reflexes and all that, but I'd be stunned to ever see him try that in a game. If you pull that shit and fail you never live it down. He's good enough to score conventionally.
