If Q is hired, he would hope q turns our current crop into a dynasty is probably the hope right?
I believe if Q is hired (which I think is the most likely outcome, although not set in stone)….. it will be 3 fold.
1) he is the best man for the job (pure hockey reasons), with the team in the stage they are at. He will coincide perfectly with a 2-4 year deal that we make the playoffs a few years, get bounced, learn how to win a series, etc.
2) that 2-4 year window, is the OC Vibe and the remodel of the Pond. While the arena and surrounding area is under construction, Q is hired to help guide the team into their next step. A perennial playoff team. Before a 40 year old coach takes the reigns for a 8-10 year run (hopefully)
3) both of the above, plus Verbeek gets to help his buddy get above 1,000 wins as an NHL coach, and fight off Paul Maurice for 2nd overall for a few more years. This one much less important than 1 and 2, and doesn’t happen without 1 and 2.
But yes, the hope would be Q, would be the next step into turning this crop of players into a dynasty, he helped Chicago do it, and Florida (when he “resigned” which at the time I was 100% f*** him and the hawks, and still am not a fan of it by any means) who had Bennet / Lundell / Barkov / Forsling / Montour / Gudas / Vats / Reinhart / Ekblad / Verhaghe
So yes I would say he’s done it twice, or helped once and did it once. That would be the goal for him and the ducks.
And I want to reiterate, I f***ing hated Joel when this story first happened, but I did absolute zero research into what happened, a man I hated for years was publicly tar and feathered for covering up rape. f*** him, f*** the blackhawks, f*** that POS Aldrich.
What is clear to me now, is he can help the ducks, and my monkey sphere is already full, so after looking at the details, understanding that 2009-2010 was a different universe, not only with the on ice product, but also just the way sexual assault, domestic violence, drunk driver (murder) and all things morally didn’t matter as much back then.
People need to f*** up, in order for the as a society to go, hey that’s wrong, we won’t accept that. Like year 2010, winning mattered over some video assistant sending inappropriate texts to 20 year old Black Aces, plus hanging out at bars outside of work. Especially when it gets brought up in the western conference finals.
That was the era we lived in, man on man sexual assault wasn’t even a thing, especially in a thing like the NHL….
May dad was 15 during the civil rights movement in California, somebody 15 years old growing up in Alabama probably had a much different experience than my dad. Are either one of them evil for existing within the societal norms of their time and place ?
Kyle suffered more than I wish anyone to suffer, Q has been weighed in the court of public opinion and has been found wanting, he has been re-instated by the NHL by completing and being an active participant in seminars, etc. Q will always hold responsibility for his inactions, and should Always feel shame for his inability to do the right thing at the moment of truth. Kyle annd Black Ace #1 will always live with those horrors, so will annd should Q……we may never know the truth of what Q truly knew or didn’t know at the time. But I think he is our next head coach, and I hope he is a changed man for the better, and if he is hired they us the fanbase at least some information on way they perceive him to deserve this job, and I hope he continues to raise awareness and give back to his community hopefully from a place of genuine caring, and not forced detention type attitude.
And no one has to agree with me, I just think we have to start preparing for the fact there is a probability this man is out next HC.
