Every other team fires their coach or GM when the season ends, not Buffalo.

We need to have a set meeting and discussions.

You either fired or not, end of story. Why do we need a meeting a week later to discuss whether or not a GM is fired? Makes no sense. Its just pure bush league.

At this point, Terry not wanting to answer questions at the new hire presser about things like "the budget" and "why did you hire someone with no experience" and "do you still care about the Sabres" might save kevyn's job.

That week before the Sabres went on their bullshit late season run of backup goaltending and the highest shooting percentage in the league…someone laid out a ton of damning things about Adams that included him not wanting any experienced people around him which is why we don’t have anyone whose accomplished a goddamned thing in management. Basically that he surrounded himself with less qualified people even though there were experienced, highly qualified people who were interested in jobs. I don’t remember who it was. There was a week where everyone from Friedman to Marek to local guys just went in on this bullshit.

But I think it was a local reporter on the Marek show.
Sounds like Pegulas adopted son

The only reason to drag it out this long is to let the outrage from missing the playoffs die down before you announce Adams is the GM for another season.

For the sake of fairness, did a very quick search of our scouts, compared to another team's in minnesota.

While our experience doesn't look great compared to expectations, Minnesota's staff also kind of point to the idea that scouts aren't always going to have superb resumes. I don't think the criticism is completely wrong, but I don't think the resume examination of our guys takes into account the realities of scouting around the league.

Buffalo
Dexter: Bunch of years as collegiate asst
Dunne: Just sabres
Forsberg: Actual experience as HC in SHL and sweden u20. And SHL GM.
Musil: Previously scout for Edmonton
Musser: Some experience in USHL. Also went from Canisius college team manager to NHL scout in 5 years.
Pechonkin: Only sabres
Stein: Longtime redwings scout

Minnesota
Baum: just minn
Berry: Guelph scout, then Minn scout
Chiarelli: Just minn
Godard: BCHL assistant coach 10 years ago. gap. Minn scout
Hamel: scouted for halifax and minn since 06
Palango: canucks 2010-2020, then Minn
Perpich: Just Min

10/10 Post. Solid premise, original research, good execution. It's a pity this doesn't get recognition compared to low effort slop.

The only part of this that I disagree with is the part about the announcement. If Adams is returning as GM, then I don’t think there will be any announcement or presser. The week will just go by with nothing and eventually it will be understood that we are looking at the status quo.

From what I've heard about Forsberg, he was also a part-time scout for Buffalo while the MODO head coach which was part of why they took Possler and then Vic and signed Muzito-Bagenda as a UDFA. It's also interesting that he was full time under both Murray and Adams.

Wow those are some throwbacks.

If we're looking at more recent history, Musil is head of their European scouting and Forsberg has been part of the group that drafted the following folks since his return:

Isak Rosen, William Von Barnekow, Noah Ostlund, Gustav Karlsson, Joel Ratkovic Berndtsson, Linus Sjodin, and Anton Wahlberg

They were also very, very interested in Kasper when he was playing in Sweden in his draft year (and that's continued with talk of him being the guy Buffalo was asking for in a Cozens-to-Wings deal).

I think he's had eyes on Helenius and Leinonen. Marjala was drafted out of the Q which I think was still Devine's territory then.

Some high end hits in there and then the usual late round chaff. They have certainly leaned into the U18 performances as a litmus test for their draft list too. If that's good or bad, I'm not sure -- Wahlberg, Kulich, Strbak, Rosen and Ostlund have all shown out there.

Thanks. In all honesty I was looking fully prepared to blast the team, but was surprised by the results

There's obviously always going to be stuff we don't know, but we might as well be as factual as possible with any information that is available

My beef with their prospect pool is more that they are trying to push more bodies into fewer spots rather than necessarily who they've picked.

Now at a pro level... that is very much a problem. VERY much a problem.

Waiting on the assistants serves no one. The guys departing get more time to look elsewhere, the replacement process can get going right away rather than waiting until after some candidates are snapped up.
The owner is here, hopefully the meetings have started and Ruff is involved and has a voice in it this time.

Can Adams/Ruff recruit competent assistants that will come to work under a coach with one year left on his contract ?

Will they drop the Appert in waiting plan ?

I would think Prospal is being looked at but he's a little busy right now with the Americans.

The way they operate, I doubt they drop the Appert plan sadly. They move very, very deliberately on some fronts.

The coaching staff change the team needs the most is Wilford's removal. I'm not sure who the assistant that has a knack for getting more out of his charges could be. Years ago it was Rick Bowness but they basically need the new Bowness (or the son of the new Bowness with how old Rick actually is).
