Wait. "NOT" a figurehead? "Signficant role?" How.....how exactly is this going to work if Adams remains GM?

I don't get this. At all. Like.....what are they looking for here?

Schrödinger's Front Office hire - simultaneously reporting to Adams and yet having autonomy and authority?

It's a jumble for sure. I hate having to wait for this to be Pegula'd into existence.

If you want a good experienced exec in here, you need to be willing to let adams go, and also give up on this silly Seth appert nonsense.

Can't have both. Sports don't work that way.

Most executives have an evaluation period. Seems reasonable to have them come in and evaluate the next 6-8 months and then start the "Private Equity cleansing".

Very few NHL GM's outside of Botterill wait 6-8 months to do things. Almost every single one except Botts gets to work immediately on their roster.

I wouldn't hate it.

Doubt it happens.
I think their likely spitballin' on this one, so agreed

Kekalainen would be my favorite but I think he will hold out for a GM job
Maybe there will be Dudley smoke after the playoffs but I cant think he will do a lateral move either. unless they offer him VP perhaps ?. With KA and Ruff having one year left on their contract it will be a tough hire imo.
Gionta has no experience, but that got Staal a job.
Regier is so prosperous, it will probably happen :D

No thinks, Burke is overrated and past his expiry date. Fired in Toronto, Fired in Vancouver and failed in both places.

Even more recently, fired in Pittsburgh. We know Terry has a fetish for things ex-Penguin. He also frittered away time in Calgary.

I don't think he was in Vancouver.

Yeah, they’re looking for a couple of high level “experts/advisors”. Guys that will pull down half a million a year to be sort of “on call”- conferences, in town for meetings for a bit to advise; that sort of thing.
Too bad Duds is happy in Fla.

The thing about Dudley is that he absolutely loves scouting. He will go to watch a game anywhere. And then he contributes what he sees even though that's not necessarily his focus. He has book on guys for years and years, a feel for them and their game from having been sitting in drafty arenas watching games and tournaments for years and years.

He was Director of Hockey Operations under Quinn in Vancouver.

Thanks! I remember him in Anaheim and with the league offices did not remember him as part of the Canucks front office. Speaking of which, they could always dip back into the nepotism higher and see if their former director of amateur scouting would like to return to Buffalo and bring in Jim Benning. I shudder to think.

Would people here want Dudley as the GM if that were actually an option? (thinking of what Paul Hamilton (iirc) said about how Dudley would be interested in the GM job).

I think we’d all take him as president/ advisor in a heartbeat, but what about as the GM?

I think we’d all probably say “he’d be better than Kevyn Adams” but how high up on your list would he be outside of that?

How deep is the pool of experienced people Pegula could legitimately get to say yes? He might be both first and last on the list at this point if he’s really be interested. No point ranking wishes that won’t come true around him.

When Kevyn says "I want to give Levi an 8 year, 56M dollar extension"

If Duds wants back to being a GM at his age, I would be surprised. But he has done work on three different teams to help them set the groundwork for future Cup winners with Tampa in '04, Chicago in'10/'13, and now Florida. I would be encouraged that maybe he could get them moving in the right direction.

"hey brian, thanks for coming in. We're really excited to work with you"
"Sure thing Kevyn. I've got some ideas for players who can help us. Lets get the pro scouts together to get them working up these guys"
"Sure, let me call our guy"
"What do you mean guy? You only have one pro scout"
"Well, we had two, but only half the teams are playing now, so the other is off for the summer"
"what the f***ing hell is going on here. That's f***ing dumb kevyn. Hire more pro scouts"
"I'll talk to Terry"
"You have to talk to the owner to hire a f***ing scout?"
"Well...i mean, I don't HAVE to, but he appreciates it if I do"
"Fine. Whatever. Lets talk new assistants. You guys really need to fix up the special team and need a new guy to help your defense. I know some guys"
"Well, we like what we have, and they are all under contract until next year. Terry doesn't like paying coaches who aren't here"
"They are assistants. They make pennies on the dollar. Your special teams and defensive play was absolute dog shit, do you want to make the playoffs"
"Let me ask Terry"
"What the hell am I doing here?"

If he were willing, I'd happily see him as GM. He could identify and train his replacement, put the organization into the proper path for success.

Not for big changes, small changes here and there but they usually take months to evaluate, formulate an action plan and execute
You mean the new GM had his eyes closed and ears plugged when he wasn't with the team?

When a GM gets hired they better know whats going on already unless you are Buffalo.

You think Stan Bowman is waiting a full hockey season cause he has to evaluate the Edmonton Oilers roster?

AGM only lasts about 3-4 years on average so over a player's career the NEW GM spends a a year evaluating then he is fired 2 years later then the new GM comes in and spends a season evaluating. So a player gets evaluated 3-4 times a career wasting seasons away on a GM "evaluating"

How awful are these GMs getting hired that they need a season to figure out what they are doing?

You telling me Stan Bowman needs 8 months to figure out the Edmonton Oilers roster?

When Dubas got hired in Pittsburgh shouldn't here already know whats going on since he is fresh out of Toronto? What kind of GM doesn't know the players and rosters around the league?
