Them swinging and missing on finding a senior advisor is hilarious.

Maybe this is why it took so long for them to announce anything....nobody wants to associate their name with this dumpster fire.

i mean, Lou can just die f*** acting above the Sabres... dude got fired from the Islanders

I think it telling that outsiders are effectively saying you got it effed up Terry. But it won’t matter
This is the only positive that can come from this disaster, honestly. A slew of qualified hockey people laughing in our faces. Of course, they’re not talking to Terry…so Adams is probably just telling him everyone is holding out for all the GM seats to be filled and when they are he will hire the least threatening person to his job and call it a year.

That’s, of course, if they aren’t just asking reporters to leak big names so they can say “hey…we were in on guys!” Like they treat everything they don’t do.

If Terry really wanted Kevyn Adams to succeed, he should have paired him with a veteran advisor from day one. But instead he had him gut the entire hockey ops dept and said him, Kevyn and Ralph Krueger could figure it out.

Now in year 6, and at a time where everyone outside Buffalo feels Adams is probably close to getting fired (or at least assumes he should be…), they are searching for a senior advisor? It’s not a bad thing that they’re finally hopefully realizing they should have experience in the front office. But it feels like more typical Buffalo mismanagement waiting until their GM is thought to be on the hot seat to do it. lol

I feel the same about Lindy trying to hire assistants this offseason instead of last (if he even is). Everyone knows he’s in the last year of his contract and is likely gone with another playoff miss. What type of quality assistant is he going to attract now?

New Jersey just let their assistants go today. Chris Taylor and Ryan McGill were holdovers from Ruff. Maybe they let him bring in his old guys...

The only way to sell things to a former GM and quality assistant coaches will be multi-year deals for good money. I would be shocked if that is what the Sabres were willing to do.

Hence, I doubt we see real quality hires.

They are probably not interested because of Pegula. Good luck getting him to realize the problem is the man in the mirror.
Pegula has money, people generally like money. So he will find someone eventually where the money is too good to pass up

Adams on the other hand, the only people that seem to be fine working with/for him are those he has summer BBQ's with in his neighborhood

Hoping this turns out similarly if y'all follow football to how the Jacksonville jaguars coach search went

They fired their coach but kept the GM, started to interview and every candidate they wanted declined because no one wanted to work for the GM. Owner circles back fires GM, they have a new coach the next day

I mean, Lance's "sources" are just Adams.

It's weird to me what they are looking for then.

Sounds like they want a senior advisor to be the AGM. Why would a former GM want to be an AGM under Adams, who has no experience.
I mean a lot of former gms won’t get jobs and if the Sabres make the playoffs this year they will then look like geniuses.

Plus I’m not sure lance’s source is Adams but if it is, it’s a pretty good source and weird to knock it as “just” the gm isn’t it?

Well sure, a senior advisor will have influence. But...when that "senior" advisor is reporting to Adams he's really just a "junior" advisor. No matter what they call the position, any former GM worth a damn is not going to think very highly of a position that reports to a flunky, while the owner still seems to have the same influence if not more than the "senior" advisor does. The whole concept is farked.

It really does seem like the way they’re setting this up is making sure that it does fail. Or they are so naïve to think that that structure would be good. I tend to think that it’s the former because of the way Adams has presented himself and the organization With their laments about how they tried. And how dare anyone not immediately swoon over the opportunity to play for or work for this dysfunctional pile turds.

I’m still floored about the whole Staal thing. It seems like somebody who talked shit about the team just a couple of years ago, played like shit on the team just a couple of years ago, and has zero experience should be the last person who’s being hired into the front office.

If I were a former GM with limited options I could see taking it for a couple reasons:

1. If the team sucks again I’ll be a natural vet in the front office to take over GM when Adams gets fired. Bonus points for actually being in the room and being able to possibly influence Terry, Game of Thrones style.
2. If the team doesn’t suck, I can say I was responsible and become an attractive candidate for a GM job with another team.

It would really need to be someone with no other options that desperately wants to stay in the league.

You just described 98% of Buffalo's current management/coaching structure.

Maybe we should aim a little higher. lol.

Just saw this posted outside Sabres offices:

This is where you end up when the owner is too scared to terminate his GM lackey but at least semi-aware the lackey is completely unqualified for the job.

Not a serious organization.

My half-joking example of them bringing in Okposo already proven true. They’ll just look for guys who were associated with the Sabres already. Even though they should be looking literally anywhere else.

Why tf would Lou, Holland, or a person with actually experience want to come in for non-leadership role in the worst run organization of all time? Reporting to a GM who has no experience other than the last 5 years of complete failure of epic proportions.

If you want to bring a person who actually has experience and knows what they’re doing, that person will ask for power (as in a GM role or POHO). Duh, they need to have the ability to make the changes they see fit. Because why tf wouldn’t they make major changes!?! What sane, let alone intelligent, human would come into this organization and think, “Oh, this is actually pretty well run, successful place.”

Edit: Apparently a lot changes in a page and a half of this thread . Should have read ahead before posting I guess. Either way, these former GMs aren’t going to want a senior advisor role to Kevyn f***ing Adams. It doesn’t work.

Here's the thing - having mentioned Darcy the other day and on Bakes pod - that likely isn't a bad idea. Was he slow to make moves? Glacially. But he also had some success in town and is another set of eyes. He ran a ridiculously lean ship and that scouting failure started this epic fail process, but the guy did know how to turn up some players. Since he also was the guy who hired Adams at the start of Adams being in the organization, maybe he's willing to Tom Hagen this.
