I want to get excited about a senior advisor role in the hockey management department, but I know Pegula and I just know this person's job or infrastructure in their duties to do their job will be a mixture of being neutered, and being uniquely used, in Terry's ever quest to do things HIS way, which will invariably go awry. But on the bright side, that person might be able to loosen the grasp Adams has on Pegula (like the Krueger-Adams-Pegula dynamic) of keeping his job.

Thank God we're getting Eric Staal back.

His leadership was invaluable while he was here. Really helped get the most out of that 20-21 roster. Cup experience too. Maybe he can teach our guys what to do when their opponents ice 4 ahl defenseman

🤢🤢🤢🤮
Given that this is his first FO job, I have zero expectations for what he will bring. And it doesn't sound like it will be a coaching job. I wonder if he works with Karmanos and tries to learn the ropes starting there.

Wait until you see who they are going to hire next:

If Pegula is doing the outreach, this can be a good thing. Pulls him out of his bubble and he would likely hear about other versions (better) for the organization.

If Adams is conducting the search, it is a joke.

If it is someone like Dudley it would make sense why things are taking so long

I doubt they get Duds to leave the Panthers. That would be a really solid hire, if they could get it done.

I wonder if there are any former GMs with Kevyn Adams ties that are out there.

Update:

Going through Elite Prospects, here are some names that have ties to Adams:

Doug MacLean
Chuck Fletcher - NJ senior advisor in 24-25
Jim Rutherford - Vancouver POHO in 24-25
Mike Barnett - NYR senior advisor in 24-25
Dale Tallon - Vancouver senior advisor in 24-25
Rick Dudley - Florida senior advisor in 24-25

Hopefully not Rutherford but seems like Terry would like it

This solves nothing. The reporting structure ensures more of the same. TP and his flat hierarchy doesn't work, but he refuses to change. Adding an assistant is no different than how they operate now. SMH.

I have $100 that says that Staal will work remotely, almost never come to Buffalo, and is getting paid to accept Adams phone calls to shoot the shit every a few times a month. All so they can say they added to the room.
I've heard even local employees work remotely because they don't really like each other. Second hand rumor, but I buy it

As someone who has been 100% remote for over a decade:

Remote work is fine. There are tons of times remote work is better.

The issue I have is that hockey is a gate driven league, and all your customers live in one area.

You also are assembling a locker room of players.

As a front office employee....if you hear or see the fans and you never step foot in the locker room, how can you know what is going on?

The Staal hire is 100% just checking a box to say "Look we're fixing the room!"

I fully expect the senior advisor to simply pay an old GM to show up for some PR videos around the draft and maybe some phone calls. . And that's it.

Do the Sabres ever hire people that aren’t associated with the team in some way? Or are they incapable? Next step:

We’re bringing back Mike Weber!
We’re bringing back Kyle Okposo!

Man, trying to find hope in this organization is an exercise in insanity, let alone futility. We need a complete overhaul. Not to bring in a “special assistant” with no management experience.
