Whomever referenced Staal as Dwight Schrute hit the nail on the head. Even though I haven't seen too much of The Office (great show - was on at a time of my life where I wasn't watching TV series), I can totally picture Kevyn Adams as the insecure / clueless / falsely confident / feckless leader Michael Scott character asking Staal/Dwight if he (Kevyn / Michael) is doing a good job, and Staal / Dwight affirming it.
This is actually an insult to Michael and Dwight....we also have no Jim to help with messes....does this make Pegula Jan? I have questions now.....

WE NEED TO HIRE A JIM!

If we were doing an ACTUAL office comparison, Kevyn is a weird mix of Micheal (a good people person but not good at his actual job) and Kevin (just hired because he was right place right time, no real qualifications)

We probably have a lot of "Jims" who just sit around the office and hit on the secretary though (I think one got fired for a similar reason).

We need more of the Idris Elba character that was there for like 2 weeks. An intense qualified person who holds people to actual standards.

IKR? And we haven't heard where Jason is off to next. Granted, that would be tampering which is only something established, old-boy teams get away with.
All jokes aside, have we received any confirmation of him leaving? I know there were rumors out there, but I've pretty much taken everything we hear outside of verified confirmations with a grain of salt.

Yeah elba character played "professional" but was out of touch and aloof. Ego but not much substantial leadership

David Wallace or Jo are closer to ideal. Although Jo had Terry's taste for living in Florida and questionable "efficiency" goals

Appert having an expanded front office role.
It's understandable that Seravelli would conflate Seth Appert having input with the GM on player acquisition and scouting, with an expanded role in the front office.

No other GM leans as heavily as Adams does on his coaches and assistant coaches when it comes to pro-scouting and player acquisition. We only have 1 pro scout after all.

I chalk this misunderstanding up to the unique and bizarre structure of the Adams regime more than to Seravelli's incompetence.

It's more of Pegula trying to employ the same flat/collaborative management structure between GM/Coaches/Ownership that he has with the Bills that he's been trying to force with the Sabres starting with Kreuger.

The Bills decisions are made by McDermott and Beane. The Sabres decisions are made by Pegula and Adams and whoever bangs the table loud enough to get their attention…no matter how qualified they are to make the suggestion.

They really aren’t the same at all.

Beane jingles keys in Pegula’s direction to distract him and runs his team the way McDermott shapes it. Adams does whatever he heard last as long as Terry says it’s ok.

God I wish Terry would try running the Sabres like he does the Bills. Keep trying new leadership until someone makes it work…and stay the f*** out of the way. He’s literally doing the opposite right now.

That goes against what Jerry Forton talked about after the 2022 Draft.

How does this refute what you bolded in Ace's post?

The two seem to be in agreement.

Unqualified shills like Forton have gotten the attention of Adams and Pegula and get to make suggestions.

Maybe Forton crys, rather than bangs loudest on the table. But the point stands that unqualified people are the ones feeding the suggestions to the decision makers in Adams/Pegula.

FOrton said the scouts are allowed to do their jobs, without pegula or Adams interfering.

Maybe forton is good at what he does, maybe he's not, but the head scout running the draft does not count as banging the table

It's a copout to say pegula makes the decisions.... except when Adams does... except when one of his staff advocate for something. It's a nothing statement

Forton only got the job at the front office because he's a personal friend of the Pegulas. He was a long time college assistant coach, spent 1 season as an assistant coach with the Sabres, then moved upstairs to amateur scout for 1 year, then was assistant director of scouting, He's kept his job under 3 different GMs and survived the mass purge in 2020....because he's buddies with the owner.

It doesn't sound he was really listened to much under GMJB (which makes sense since GMJB didn't hire him) and was very happy when GMKA came on and actually listened to him.

All that to say is....Forton isn't going to say much negative about the ownership or Adams.

He's a part of the front office sycophant crew that has led us to 14 years of no playoffs. I have no idea if he's good at his job or not....but him being a big part of this front office makes me think its probably quite the opposite.

Was the first paragraph reported anywhere?

Looking at his resume, he looks qualified to be a running a scouting program. I also wouldn't put it past Botts to promote someone and then not listen to them.

He did well drafting college guys (when they actually dipped into that well) when he was the director of college scouting and the last 4 years of drafts under Adams have been pretty good. As we start to see the fruits of some of the deeper picks it paints a bit better of a picture.

The body of his work seems fine and I would imagine there would be interest if he were let go.

I can’t find it in print. I believe it was Tim grahams podcast that mentioned their relationship in passing.

I mean, Devine has survived four GM's and three owners, being run by the league and oversaw the video scouting era of them drafting like crap. Some of this is not new.
