The purpose of a 5 PM Sunday start?

Can someone explain the logic of this?

It’s obviously NOT for television as this time DIRECTLY conflicts with the NFL.

It’s not “family friendly” as it eats both an afternoon and an evening.

The game is almost never against a quality opponent (which may be on purpose).

All that aside, the start time screws with players pre game preparation, pre game meal, arrival at the arena, rhythm, etc.

The game itself is almost guaranteed to be flat.

The Rangers record in home Sunday 5 PM starts is abysmal.

I think you’ll also find that home records around the league for these “matinees” (in quotes because 5 PM really isn’t one) is quite bad.

I fail to understand what the point of this start time is, other to guarantee a bad game and give the road team a slight advantage.

Personally I've grown to LOVE the 5PM starts as a season ticket holder.

Game is over before 8, home before 9:15, in bed at a normal hour and rested for Monday morning.
