the possibility of an offer sheet?

i see alot of fans suggesting pastrnak should take a long term deal for less than 6 mill per year

did these fans know another team can pay him as much as 7.8 mill and only give up a first/second/third to us?

we have a small advantage... we can go longer than 5 years. another team would run into problems going longer than 5 years due to how the compensation gets determined for longer contracts

but a deal for shy of 6 mill isnt likely... keep it in mind when daydreaming about adding other expensive players... and be more forgiving of sweney when hes careful with his cap room

Someone should offer sheet Draisaitle.

Gavin Lee covers the topic in the attached Prohockey article and the Oilers appear to be ready to match any offer.

"Though it may not have needed to be said, Edmonton Oilers GM today clarified his position in regards to a potential offer sheet targeting Leon Draisaitl. As Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports, Chiarelli and the Oilers will match “any offer.†Whether it is a bluff or not, it’s hard to see anyone actually signing Draisaitl to an offer sheet. They are so rare these days that they almost never happen, and Chiarelli can honestly say he’ll match after moving out salary in today’s earlier Jordan Eberle deal."

There's always talks of offer sheets to X, Y, Z and nothing happens. Last player acquired via offer sheet I think was Dustin Penner some 10 years ago? So the chance of them is remote.
Plus I am not sure that GMs would want an environment where GMs would try to constantly to torpedo each other by offer sheeting their best players.

I don`t worry about offer sheets, can`t even recall the last time there was one?

I almost think GM`s have an unwritten agreement these days that the offer sheet stuff, despite being 100% fair game, is not done within their alumni.

Yup, I think part of it is given that the rarely work anyways, offer-sheets just drive up the inflation on player salaries quicker, which just makes it harder on all GMs. They know this so rarely now do you see any in the salary cap era, whereas back in the day pre-cap certain teams like NYR and Leafs weren't really all that concerned about salary inflation.

Believe it was Shea Weber who had a ridiculous rich offer from Philly (??) that Nasvillle felt compelled to match. They are very rare just the same.

Don't forget Calgary getting Ryan O'Reilly to sign one only to be matched by Colorado.

All signs point to contract negotiations with Pasta's camp going well. I agree some posters are hoping for a lower cap hit than what is likely but still I'm about 0.01% concerned Pasta gets to July 1st as an RFA.

I believe that both GM's who signed offer-sheet of Weber and ROR are no longer GM's in the NHL either. Feaster I believe was fired the following season and Holmgren was moved to president of operations a few years after the offer sheet
