I can't believe I am breaking NBA news/rumors, but in case you guys missed it this morning ...

Windy was on ESPN, talking about Bradley Beal among other things. He didn't say anything like "he prefers the Sixers" or something, but he did name-check them when speaking of the teams Beal (who has no-trade control and control over the package his return lands in a trade) could be moved to. He also said (paraphrasing) "People will be shocked by how low the ask will be in a trade," meaning it will be a bargain for the acquiring team.

Even if the asking price is low, the price price is not:

Bradley Beal

You’re a beast, Cap.

Harden is always at the Rico Runs in the summer so they know each other well. Could be a good sign?

Darko wants to build his own staff in TO so this move is not surprising. But Siakam always trains with him, so may be a sign the Raps are moving him. Come on Portland #3!

Bobby Mark's hypothetical 76ers deal for Beal....if Harden left:

Harris
Korkmaz
2030 top 20 protected 1st
I think the only way that type of deal happens would be Beal refusing to be traded anywhere else.

I think realistically Miami is prob going to look at him, they have some salaries that can match it up. Lowry is in the final year like Harris. They also could move the 18th pick in this draft.

I think if I was Beal I would force my way to Miami and not Philadelphia since I've already shown the only thing I care about is maximizing my salary (hence the staying with the awful Wizards for a supermax). Going to a state without an income tax (like Florida or Texas) lets me keep more of that salary.

If anyone thinks Tobias' contract is bad (or Harden's future deal), take a look at Beal's supermax.

Kyle Neubeck poured cold water on the Sixers acquiring him. It could only plausibly happen if Harden walks, and frankly, Beal is overrated and it's a weird fit with Maxey. Who the heck would the Sixers even have at forward?

I didn’t realize they laid off Rich Hofmann too. Every writer I subbed to The Athletic to read is now gone or in a role that doesn’t fit what I want from them (Kapadia) minus Brugler. And it’s not like there’s a shortage of good NFL draft sources.

If you add up all of the dozens and dozens of additions they’ve made since their first year of existence, they’ve only given me two NFL Staff Writers of value. As much as I enjoy the two of them, that’s not worth a sub to a monolith. I guess that‘s done.

The athletics business model was pretty garbage. Honestly it seemed like they hoped to put enough 'competitors' out of business while taking 'big losses/using up oodles of investment money' to hope they could emerge in a landscape where the people they were overpaying didn't have anywhere else to go and they could get them to re-join the Athletic at a much lower rate.

They have no one at forward now as far as Im concerned.
The main focus should be improving the 3/4 spots. Its very possible.
As long as the not-so-Big 3 is Jo/Harden/Maxey you need a lot more functional athleticism and defensive versatility than what they have now.
Morey paid a premium for the wrong guys last year and it cost them.
Watching PJ/Tobias try to show and fade off Jo's drop PnR coverages was purest pain.
For a team that loves to slow games to a crawl having wings that add minimal value baseline to baseline is also a non-starter.

I'd start with Charlotte.
They'll be at the bottom for awhile longer but they have a glut of wings and they'll add another this draft so at least one or two will shake loose.
They're young and already have multiple guys with character concerns so I could see them being willing to trade a young guy for a 'good professional' like PJ or Tobias.

Jordan paid $275 million in 2010 to become majority owner. He's getting $3 BILLION in 2023 to sell off most of that ownership (remaining with a slight minority stake).

Obviously financially it looks like a massive success. But in regards to the on court product he is way to proud to deliberately rebuild. And unless you have a miracle draft pick result or are in a free agent destination city this is the basketball you get.
