OT: The OT Thread: At least it's not cold out (Warning in post 368)

Had applied for a job as a practice interview, since the salary was way below what I was making. Not only did I get an offer, but they offered me $8 more than the top end of their advertised range. Also 2 wfh days weekly. I wouldn't be starting until the 23rd, so I would still have some time off to get my brain in order and finish up the final steps on novel selling prep. Seems like it's going to be The Summer of George BGM

Edit: also, that summer didn't end well for George.

So after 11 years, I finally moved into my own place. From a cramped two bedroom with a tiny kitchen and tiny bathroom to a studio with a fireplace, stand alone shower, and jacuzzi tub. And still the same size kitchen as my last place but I don’t have to worry about things being cluttered.

Also the ads on here are almost site breaking, even with AdBlock Plus on.

ONG would be proud.

Well, it’s my turn to share some messed up job search stuff.

I applied and interviewed for a position to use my MDiv.

Found out the person that got the job is the son of the person who led the hiring committee. During the interview, she said she wouldn’t vote, but didn’t say it was a conflict of interest thing.

I told my wife about that and she immediately guessed that her son was one of the other two candidates. I immediately dismissed the idea because I thought that her morals wouldn’t let her remain on the committee if her son was a candidate.

I was wrong.

And now my wife wants to punch her friend and I have to calm her down.

Nepo babies. they're f***ing everywhere.
And it’s going to be tough for me to navigate as I am on the church council with the mom. I already threw one email grenade this morning.

And my check in with my ordination mentor in a week and a half will be fun. He already felt bad and wanted to hear about the process before this news dropped.

On top of that, I’m worried that they didn’t dot their Is and cross their Ts with respect to the Conflict of Interest laws that NY State has with regards to 501 c 3s. We already have some salty members. And this could give them fuel…

I just made an old woman “clutch her pearls” on my way home from work.

So it was a long draining day at work. So, with as gorgeous as it it outside, I do what any sane person would do, windows down, music at max and just vibing on my way home. Well I pull up to a red light right as Da Rockwilder by Method Man and Redman starts. Which is a great stress reliever lol, but a car pulls up next to me and this woman just looks at me, shakes her head, kinda gasps a little and puts her own window up.

You left out that you were brandishing your gun, didn’t you?

Just found out the Pink Pony Club is the Oilers victory song. Anyone else find themselves jammin' to if whenever it's played? It's a seriously good song. I never thought I'd sing 'where boys and girls can both be queens' and that hook so loud. Just a killer song.

Feel free to disregard as it is none of my business. Did you once mention you were from a Holiness movement background? Do you have your local license? I didn't know you were going for ordination, and this is exciting news for me. Pretty awesome, JB.

I remember wanting to stay on the East coast for grad school, so I applied to a school in Minnesota for practice. One scholarship offer later, and I ended up spending five years of my life in Minneapolis.

novel selling prep!? Very nice.

It's funny that's how things seem to work. The job I just left started the same way, as a practice interview.

I bought a domain a couple days ago and have been working on both the website and finalizing the cover. It's my first time actually building the cover, so I'm also kinda learning Adobe Illustrator at the same time.

My response is always “cool. I don’t.”

Years ago, I was working at a record store and a little boy came running up to me saying “daddy, daddy!” And holding his arms up as though we want to be picked up. The toddler’s mom came scampering up apologizing while the kid kept calling me. So I turned to her and said “well clearly we’ve met” at which point she blushed and fled the store with the child.

I had that happen the other day. Made me wonder why I haven’t seen my doppelgänger

When we first moved to NY I was 4 almost 5 and we were leaving church one of our first Sundays here and I mistook a man for my dad and ran up and grabbed his leg saying “dad can we play outside when I get home?” Or something along those lines. The way my parents tell it I must have see the same mustache my dad had at the time and just went with it.

Has anyone else noticed people are driving crazier since the pandemic, or am I just experiencing recency biased? I swear there are more lunatics on the road.

I was driving down the street doing around 45 in a 40, some bozo was tailgating me. Whatever; didn't bother me much.

I take a right onto my street, drive about 50 yards. My street has an island of grass. Im about 20 yards from it going almost 30 in a 30, and this lunatic guns it around me, going in the opposite lane to do so, and barely makes it past me almost hitting the island. I slammed on my horn, which really isn't a good idea now-a-days with how aggressive people are. The neighborhood speed limit is 30. They were driving 45 down the rest of the street, and backed into a driveway. We had a nice little stare down as I passed by, but I knew it wasn't worth it to escalate it with that clown. They did have a New Jersey license plate heh.

That's the second time thats happened to me in the past few months. The first time I handled it worse. The bird was flying out my window that time. I told myself I'd handle it better next time, and it was a...slight improvement, haha.

It's hiliarious because they only save a couple seconds by doing that, but look like absolute lunatics in the process. Maybe I should just call the cops next time.

Mannn, I was in the city one time for a family event. I was outside for some reason in the dark. As many of you know, the houses look alike in the city. Well, I wasnt quite sure which house was my cousins, so I took a guess...not a smart move.

I walk into the house, and gangsta rap is playing pretty loudly, which signaled to me this is not the right house. I quickly ran out, and a few seconds later some guy came running out to the porch. Luckily, I was pretty far ahead, but he was probably ready to get rowdy.

I found the right house, went inside, and told my dad. I was pretty shook up. It wasnt the best neighborhood, and I was probably 8 or 9. Of course, my dad just laughed at me, haha, which I suppose lightened the situation a bit. I could have been shot, though.
