OT: The OT Thread: False spring is the worst season of all (Warning in post 368)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
So, Nate called and he's expecting to get another rest day tomorrow and dress as the backup.

His ankle didn't have pain at practice yesterday. But, it felt weak, he wasn't able to push off with his normal pop, and he gave up a couple of goals that he would normally get.

So, unless he's lights out in practice today, he's probably going to target Wednesday to get back on the field in game action.

If you want to feel a smidge better about the Kiedis age gap...

Al Pacino, who is 84 years old, and his girlfriend Noor Alfallah, who is 30, have a 54-year age difference, and they welcomed a son named Roman in June 2023

I'm fairly open as long as people's intentions and hearts are pure but sometimes all you can do is shake your head. As someone in their early 40s it can be challenging to relate to someone in their 20s. I don't know how Pacino or Kiedis bridge those gaps. I can't speak on Kiedis' girl but Pacino's is a producer and executive, vice president of Lynda Obst Productions at Sony and has a master's degree in film and TV producing from UCLA. Those aren't the types of things you would expect to learn about a 30 year old who conceived a child with a 84 year old. We're only here once so whatever makes you happy.

Wayyy off topic, but I saw the singer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis, is dating a 19 year old. He's 62 years old. I know our demographic here leans a bit older, so Im curious as to everyone's opinion on age gaps.

That seems really, really f***ing weird to me.

If there is no coercion and everyone is of age, let people do what people do. Not my cup of tea - I kinda like the divide your age in two and add seven thing because that at least puts someone who has a far more familiar life to mine. But people can do what they want.

Now the underage thing that’s f***ing disgusting

Totally changes the interpretation of Under the Bridge

I actually find the gap between Kiedis and his gf to be weirder. A 19 year old seems so juvenile to me. A 30 year old has so much more life experience.

When I was on campus, there were people in that category and it was weird with an age gap much less than he has with his current GF. And watching the ones from their mid-ish 20's interacting with the teens was also fascinating - there was definitely a maturity and it was just a matter or a few years.

Off-off-topic: Haven't enjoyed anything since Hillel passed, preferring Mike Patton/Mr. Bungle over RHCP. On-off-topic: All things are permissible; not all things are beneficial. In the end maybe it is just the blood he is after.

He’ll be a wonderful father for the 18 months he’ll be around.

if anyone who has paid attention to anything I say in this thread remembers about the girl I was seeing, and then complained about (and this went through many cycles) remembers anything about that, I went to her place this past Friday. I was asked by our mutual friend to go there, and it was supposed to be a simple thing. Basically it was to hang out, and the kid eventually just goes to bed because of the time.

Instead the kid spent her entire time awake wanting attention. So she grabbed an activity book and hopped up on the couch beside me and wanted to do that. Which I did with her, 3 pages worth. Then she got tired of it (understandable because so was I), so she went and grabbed an actual book and wanted me to read to her. I did that, and she fell asleep on me. So I put her to bed, but then I got accused of trying to turn the kid against the parents. Like excuse me? Give your kid attention and they won’t look for it from other people

Got a bit of good news on the work front (in theory at least).

Was very concerned after our company got acquired in November about being subject to yet another layoff and having to go out on a bad job market.

Was announced internally that the parent company would be letting us run our own ship with very little outside influence until 2027, which should prevent the dreaded re-org.

I'm essentially the only DevOps/SRE on the team and manage a few mission critical things. So knowing I won't be folded into a bigger org or the bigger org wouldn't simply absorb my responsibilities is a good thing.

So, one thing they don't tell you about your kid playing DIII college sports is the importance of the parent that will organize the postgame gatherings.

The mom of Nate's teammate/roommate/best friend really started to get things going on that front last year. But, James decided to take his Associates degree and get a job instead of coming back for his junior year.

So, I have picked it up.

It is funny how popular Uncrustables are with these guys. I had Nate send out a survey of what they would really like to see on the table after a game.

2/3 of the responses were Uncrustables. Although, one guy scared Nate a bit. He told Nate that his response was a very inappropriate answer that I will leave out. Nate goes, "I really hope you didn't actually say that because the answers go to my dad."

Then his teammate was like, "Nah, I said Uncrustables."

:DD

Years of trying to get my son to eat fruit yielded responses like "I hate fruit," and "bruh....." Little fruit eaten.

The nutritionist at our performance readiness center tells him that he needs 60 grams of good carbs after a workout, and she tells him that a banana and an apple are perfect.

Incoming text: "Bruh, we need lots of bananas and apples from the store."

:shakehead:speechles

Kids generally feel like advice that their parents have given many times over is only noteworthy when someone else gives them the same exact advice.

Fruit was never a problem for mine - always had things like apples, bananas, oranges and berries on hand so the oldest could graze. The younger one has different tastes though and would murder any dried fruit I brought in for myself as well as having regular hankerings for pineapple. Just left it out for them (except the pina, that was diced in the fridge) and they could maraud at their leisure. Both have their food hang ups though so at least on that front, it was a win.

My oldest eats like an oriental and she's super healthy. My middle child eats smartly and she's very fit. Up until recently, my son's diet was chocolate milk, hot dogs, and bacon. But he's changed over the past year. Fruit and vegetables are the final frontier, not for lack of them being in my house though.
