Wild weather everywhere.

We've been iced-in for 2 days now. Couldn't even make it safely to the street this morning to walk the doggo.

Another 8" of snow for you guys. Oof. And frost warnings for north FL. Get out the smudge pots!

Much of the citrus in Florida is gone. The citrus greening disease that blew in from the Caribbean has spread and smashed it as a viable product. At peak, 300 million boxes of citrus were produced here and now it's under 20 million going on data from the over the last 20 years.

Wow! Lowest citrus production since WWII. That explains why my Florida's Natural juice cartons no longer say "100% Florida". Looks like Texas has picked up the slack for grapefruit, and Brazil for oranges.

I always start the day with a mix of orange and grapefruit juice. It balances the sweetness of the former and the tartness of the latter.

Yep. The disease blew ashore into the Miami area due to a tropical storm. Then the folks in charge of removing the initial infected trees to try to stop the spread didn't do a good job with their warrants and someone in Miami fought it legally, by which point it had already started to spread.

Pulp and timber production have replaced citrus in many areas. Cattle have had an uptick as well. One interesting thing UF is trying to introduce is a Florida variety of peaches - the trees aren't impacted by the greening but can be planted in similar densities and thus harvested with existing infrastructure. They are smaller than their Georgia counterpart, but also sweet and aromatic.

I've been wondering who's been getting into my fridge. My OJ/GF juice mix has been going low for no apparent reason. It's a 2/3 to 1/3 mix, made with care and precision. I'll be watching...

Shoulda got one game in
Curious what the truck guys here think of Cybertruck.

Ugly as shit. It also doesn’t have built in crumple zones like every single vehicle does. Did you see that story where one got in an accident on a back road in California? A guy driving a car hit an embankment and crossed the road into the path of a Cybertruck. His car got totalled, the truck had barely a scratch, but the Cybertruck driver was the only one who was injured. Because he took the force of the crash instead of the Cybertruck.

Teslas are mostly just status symbols for people. Might as well get the Ford Maverick or Hyundai Santa Cruz, or a Rivian and save money upfront if you dont want a real truck.

Eh, a lot of trucks are just status and haven't done a damn day of work, at least in this area.

I don't know if it was an unique phenomena to the era or area, but I worked with individuals in the oil patch whom had a work truck but also had a "going-to-town" truck; the latter of which would always be a f350/3500 1-ton but would be driven without a bed on it. As if to say,"f*** a bunch of work" without having to say anything at all.
