OT: The OT Thread: Maybe spring has sprung... (Warning in post 368)

Been living in a hotel in Buffalo since March 11th (as my dad recovers from his stroke).

As a tax accountant, Ive only been going between work (working remotely/have my 3 monitors set up in the hotel) and the hospital/rehab/now dad's house since I got to Buffalo. My dad, for how he's treated his body (and his general attitude towards health) is one lucky person. He still has very slurred speech, but 2 months ago, we never thought he'd be able to come back home.

As much of a pain in the tush that he is, all the recent events remind me to appreciate the small things every day.

Also, it is nice to actually get off work and see some daylight!

We had a COVID outbreak on one of our units this week. I had a productive cough this morning. Went into work completely forgetting one of my units was having a COVID outbreak. Tbf, it's one of our step down units that doesn't garner too much of my attention. The wifey works on that unit and texted me 'it's probably COVID',then I was reminded, and thought 'ohhh shiiittt'. I wore a mask at least (per protocal anyways), but I had a slight cough start up yesterday afternoon, so it's possible I was contagious. I told my NM, and he immediately told me 'Go home'.

So, here I am. Laying in bed with the wifey and little guy downstairs. Feeling crappy. I hope it's not COVID. On the bright side, I may get out of all of the craziness that Easter Sunday brings. I come from a divorced home, so those from similar homes know what I'm talking about. So many houses to go to!

Hope for your sake it isn't. The studies on the long-term impacts are, well, frightening.

Haven't mentioned it in a while, but the games on my Youtube channel have changed up recently. I'm playing Avowed, Half Life 2, and Phantasy Star 4, all blind plays. Just in case anyone's interested.

I also resurrected my Goodreads page and posted my first blog entry a few minutes ago, to prep for the novel release.

And finally, I got a hug from my chiropractor this morning for helping him with some Google Workspace stuff earlier in the week. He doesn't work on Fridays, but he told me to come in at 10 for a free adjustment as a thank you.

Is it Dr. Christopher?

Was finally working towards a good work-life balance. Getting 1 maybe 2 Saturdays off a month to be home with my little one and wife. Felt like things were getting controllable again.

A month ago one of my fulltime employees is found unconscious in a bathroom stall (after I had left for the day). My upper supervisor brings him to and simply sends him home for the day. They place my employee on written warning for 6 months for "stealing time" (being out cold in the bathroom). Let him drive himself home. A week passes and on two different occasions I can tell something is up with this dude. So I tell human resources my concerns. Falls on deaf ears because you can't prove shit based on someone's gut feelings.

one more week goess by and they find my employee passed out in his car with and empty bottle of SoCo in his lap. Put him in an Uber and send him to get tested....he blows a .25 with Benzos and weed in his system too at 3pm.....

Obviously gets fired a few days later after the whole process. Now I'm working 55 hours a week to cover for him and my home life is shot once again, and all I could think about was...."I told ya so" clearly something was wrong and no one did anything annd now I'm paying the price.....life man....kinda sucks sometimes.

HL2 is a masterpiece.

Happy Easter!
Happy Easter. I get to spend mine in the airport waiting for my flight home after my cruise. It was an amazing trip. So much quality time with the family, great food, great excursions and it actually felt like the week took its time to go by instead of flying by. This is probably my favorite picture taken during the week that doesn’t have the kiddos in it. Amazing moon rise over the ocean from our room’s balcony.

So we may or may not have booked/put a down payment on another cruise for next April while sitting in the airport waiting for our flight. It’ll just be me and the wife this time as it’ll be for our 25th wedding anniversary that is next year. Our anniversary is in July but we wanted to go earlier in the year to avoid the crazy heat that comes in July down where we’re going.

So, the past few days have been a bunch of ups and downs with my kids.

My oldest turned 23 on Thursday. She has pulled away from having a relationship with me for a few years now. So, I just got them a birthday card from her stepmom and I. I found out this morning that she was mad that my mom gave her money and I just gave her a card and that "I owe her."

Thankfully, my youngest and my ex both felt like that was an illogical take and my ex told her that maybe you should spend time with your dad if you want a birthday present.

On the good side, Nate played the second half on Saturday and he looked like his normal self after battling both his sprained ankle and a respiratory bug. He said that his ankle felt good for the first time this spring season and he could make his normal movements without pain or weakness. After his goalie partner really struggled in the first half, Nate was awesome in the 3rd quarter. His 4th quarter was rough, but he still ended up with a Save% that was around 2x his partner's and the other team didn't pull their starters until deep into the 4th.

And I felt good when my youngest reached out about going to the Knighthawks game together on Saturday, even if I couldn't go because of Nate's game.

In January, the company that my wife was employed with terminated her position after twenty six years there. Quite a shock and out of the blue. Lost our insurance and all that. Our twins are graduating HS this year and had prom and senior stuff to do and had to contend with being suddenly poor. Really awful time all around. She has been looking since the second week of January; applying everywhere. Positions for sixty year old women are very few and far between in our area it seems.

Today, she was hired on and will work within our city courthouse. God is faithful. One of the jobs she was hoping to get. It's a wonderful old building full of marble and terrazzo floors. Really good news as four months with no income coming in and three children at home whom still like to eat is a dead end road.

I'm sorry you and your family are going through that. Glad she finally got something.
