Buffalo Bills The offseason begins — NFL draft Apr. 24-26

I’m of the opinion that Nolen can handle 1 tech in the Bills scheme. He’s certainly strong enough. Watch his games. He can anchor.
Having two sub-300 lb DTs on the field on run downs will be less than ideal.

The question we don't know the answer to is how much do the Bills want to tweak their 1TDT archtype and get a 320+ guy in that spot.

Just did a 3-rounder:

TRADE: Bills trade pick 30 to NY Giants for picks 34 and 105

34. Shavon Revel, Jr., CB, East Carolina
56. Alfred Collins, DT, Texas
62. Isaiah Bond, WR, Texas

TRADE: Jaguars trade picks 88 and 221 to Bills for picks 105 and 109

88. Andrew Mukuba, S, Texas

I did not intentionally draft three Longhorns lol; it just worked out that way.

When I see the tape on Bond, I love what I see. Great separator. CB's are not going to lock him up at the snap. Good deep ball skills. When I listened to Joe Marino's podcast yesterday, he brought up off the field issues so I'm not sure what's up with that. And despite his physical tools, his stats kind of suck ass.

I think Nolen can get away with that at the College level. I'm not confident that'll work at the NFL level.

Can we get two 250 lb DTs and have them piggyback in a trench coat? Have them be a 12 ft, 500 lb d-lineman.

Or, we could just draft Desmond Watson!

Where is this guy mocked? day 3? I'm seriously not opposed to it.

I still think CB is the go to for our first pick (even if it's trade down). I think CB is 'more' of a skilled position than a DT/D interior. They're out there on an island and I want someone that can lock down, play bump and run and play tight. I think that's more key than a space eater in the middle.

Just Don't Draft The Next Elam!

I have no idea. I think he'll go undrafted.

I'm torn between DT And CB. I keep going back and fourth. It depends on the board. I know having a disruptive DT that can command double team and collapse the pocket won't just help with the run, but it'll help our pass defense too assuming it helps generate more pressure.

You don't need great corners if your front 4 can do that. We already have a great corner though, so to me that lessens the need to go CB in round 1. But given how deep the draft is at DT, that might be the better way to go. It'll be interesting to see how this draft unfolds. I expect Beane to be very busy with the amount of capital he has.

I do wonder if there will be some reluctance drafting cb really high after the Elam fail unless it's someone they really believe in like Tre White. Their other successes at DB have all been later picks/udfa (Johnson, Benford, Jackson, Lewis, Ingram).

If there is one, expect Beane to go up and grab him before he gets poached.

UDFA

He had a few plays that went viral, but in general he's not athletic enough to make plays.

That reminds me that they did the same with Elam and moved UP. 😭 Brutal

Brandon Beane isn't scared to roll the dice.

I think the lesson to learn from the Elam/Benford draft, along with other early round picks that haven't worked out great as of yet, they need to stress scheme fit and the development plan for the player.

And that applies to CB, DT, DE, and any other position they are considering early.

I seriously doubt Nolen’s playing weight is 296. And he’s super young. Just turned 21. He’ll add weight. But but his natural strength makes him a ridiculous prospect. That said, based on some smart people I follow, Nolen isn’t sniffing 30.

I don’t know why there isn’t more hype around Swinson. You watch his tape and he’s flat at dominant. Maybe because his 2023 season wasn’t impressive? I love his first step. He goes wide and bends and that sets up his other move of starting wide and cutting back in. Big fan. 30% win rate is incredible.

I see what you’re talking about with Nolan. He plays violent. You’re right about his playing strength. It’s up there. I think we all fall in love with certain prospects every year and for me, it’s Grant this year. I’ve watched a lot more film on Nolan and the more I see the more I like.

At the end of the day, there are multiple correct answers this draft at DT. All will have their pros and cons. Just addressing it is a Win imo.

Another sleeper I’ve fallen in love with is WR Kyle Williams from Washington. He’s another guy that you watch on film and wonder why he has like, a 4th ground grade. This is a polarizing draft class.

I would not be surprised at all if multiple teams had players from around 12-15 to 40-45 with similar draft grades. I think we’ll see some first round names we didn’t really expect.

Swinson is a good player and he’s one of the players I really like in round 2.

Williams is explosive but raw. He needs some time to develop mass and technique against physical coverage. A player like Golden has the tape showing he can beat SEC corners, where Williams has struggled getting off the line at times and sifting through zones.

I’ve been advocating the trade out of the first round probably since February to get a 3rd round pick back. Williams should be in play for that pick.
