Buffalo Bills The offseason begins

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Jordan Whitehead is veteran Safety the One Bill's Live guys just mentioned as a possibility for the Bill's. Not much production though. But should be on the cheap side.

Yeah I could get behind this. We need someone who can play for when Rapp hurts himself and if case Bishop isn't quite ready.

Is Allen at 15M affordable (plus assets in trade) ?

Joe Marino says keep and eye on FA WR Josh Palmer (LAC). No sure who he would replace, Hollins ?

Landry 9 sacks in 2024

He's demanding a trade because they won't give him a new contract. Any talk of acquiring him for his current deal is kind of silly.

would like to see the One Bills Drive guys bring up the travel issues so that gets to the higher ups.

Benford/Alexander/Johnson would be a nice trio though!

25M cap hit for 2025 though as Jim mentioned. Benford is expected to come around 22-25M on an extension.
I'm quite positive they are aware

What really concerns me is not the travel issue so much as that it's reoccurring and that their total rank is slipping year over year. A couple years ago the Bills scored well across the board except travel. It appears theyre becoming a less desirable team to play for.

I wonder how many of these 'permission to seek a trade' end up as just straight up releases and the team was just trying to recoup an asset rather than let them go outright.
I think it tends to mean the player wants a new deal and they're far apart on value.

Players that have met with the Bills so far

DT Kenneth Grant Michigan

DT Alfred Collins Texas

DT Jamaree Caldwell Oregon

EDGE Landon Jackson Arkansas

EDGE Mike Green Marshall

EDGE Josaiah Stewart Michigan

LB Chris Paul Jr Ole Miss

CB Trey Amos Ole Miss
Grant and Collins are good fits. Caldwell is a stocky, large NT type. Green is well known and documented. Jackson is what the Bills have traditionally looked for in DEs and a favorite of mine. He's been hurt in the past. Paul is a Bills style LB. Amos could be a sneaky good pick if he lasts into the 2nd. He's a boundary CB who is good in zone. Stewart is more Solomon than what the Bills have taken in the past for edge rushers. Great against the pass but can be run against.

I think it's going to be Tyleik Williams based on how the board falls.

Edit: I can also see Beane going for Scourton or Ezeiruaku as edge rushers. Both are younger with longer runways.

Quick PFF draft, and just going off who they interviewed, age, BPA, and needs, and I landed with this:

1. Nic Scourton, DE Texas A&M
2. Josaiah Stewart, DE Michigan
2. Jordan Phillips, DT Maryland

Just off the PFF big board, which I'm not in love with.

The gaff is in reference to not wanting to pay him. Also of note T Mike Williams ending up as a bust at the about the same time.
I knew what you meant re: Jason Peters. I think he's one of the Bills best moves/finds/outcomes in team history, and as you note one of the worst decisions.

"Big Mike" Williams bust is another great dud in Bills history.

Fun fact: Long-ago Bills bust Walt Patulski is retired from his post-football life and moved to my city and is a member of the local Notre Dame Fan club where I am also a member. We haven't met yet. My life is busy; may not meet him until fall when UND game watches re-start. I only made two of them this past season.

Edit: Speaking of UND, TE Tony Hunter was another relative bust for BUF. Drafted ahead of Jim Kelly in 1983, I think at #7 OA.

My Michigan bro told me that Grant is a great prospect! Let's cross our fingers that we'll be able to draft him.
My guess is that he ends up going in the top 20 and is not a guy the Bills have a shot at.

He was top 5 in Bruce Feldman's College Freaks list for 2024 and is expected to light up the combine and be a RAS darling.

Testing+Game Tape+Teams wanting to copy the Eagles = Grant goes well before 30.

The Bills social media team was reportedly following Paul around a lot. People were guessing that it might be for some of the BTS draft content...

It has been a recurring theme that the seats on their charters are thought to be too small for a lot of players.

I doubt it is something that the higher ups don't know about. They just have chosen to spend money elsewhere.

Update:

Beane knows and he talked about what they do. It shouldn't be too surprising since this was a major complaint last year and it does not seem like the team has changed much.

The head coach ranking raises some flags.....
I don't place a lot of value in those responses given that Raheem Morris and Mike McDaniel were given A+s.

The Dolphins didn't have anything lower than a A and they still have 0 playoff wins in the 21 century.

I'd love to have him......but I think we're going to need to trade up into the early 20s to get him.
I won't be shocked if he goes in the late teens.

This is going to be "interesting"
I think the bigger issue is the spotting of the ball and not just replacing the chain gang with higher tech measuring devices.

This conversation on the topic had it 100% right. Today, you have two different referees that each have their own opinion and they sort of wait for one ref to yield to the other ref's POV.

That was the issue in the Buffalo-KC game. One ref had Josh getting the line to gain. Another ref didn't. The ref that had Josh getting the first down yielded to the one that didn't.

This change in tech doesn't affect that.

One thing Beane takes umbridge with is the lack of clarity on number of responses. So I tried to glean how many responses there might be based on the percentages reported (are they all divisibles of a certain number?). The answer: no. They're all over the places. Which leads me to believe players can choose which questions to respond to and which to leave blank, which I would say is poor methodology if you're going to report percentage-based answers. I do think the big picture answer is a lot of players participated, though, specifically because of the question on cold tub space, which yielded 98% saying they have enough. The only way you could get to 98% is if 50 players participated and 49 said yes (or some number close to those and rounded, like 48/49 or 50/51). All that to say, it's a substantial number.

I do strongly disagree with him saying it's not great feedback because players are saying it anonymously but not in the building. That means players don't feel comfortable complaining to you, not that it's not an actual problem. Big difference.

Paul is the prototype McDermott linebacker. Tremendous read and react ability, great in zone coverage, plays like he's shot out of a cannon, played in the SEC where he's taking on bigger blockers. He'd be a Milano replacement eventually.

Maybe so, but if the Bills use another day 2 pick on an off ball LB, it's really going to feel like poor asset management to me. Bills have used a 3, 3, and 5 on LBs the last 3 drafts.

Hopefully he's more of a "if he falls to day 3 do we love him so much to get aggressive" eval as opposed to a genuine option for one of those 2nd round picks.

FWIW, Brugler seems him as more of a MLB than OLB (and the Bills have talked about how they view those ad very different positions), so maybe they're looking at him as more of a Bernard replacement if they can't get him signed than for Milano.

Living in SEC country, I saw plenty of Mississippi. I don't think he's a MLB.

As the boards shift with the combine, I'm think Beane may be in trade down mode again. I don't like the board at 30, with Grant rising and Williams falling. I think Beane could make a small trade down again and get the same type of value while picking up a 3rd. Similar to what he did last year.
