The start of the season and the mediocrity on display for the first half of the season has been difficult to endure for all parties involved.

The entire team played below expectations and the team looked to be years away from any semblance of a playoff push.

With some signs of individual players turning things around that are snowballing into some wins, and for the sake of positivity it might be a good time for an "Is Back" thread.

Personally I'd like to see some game to game consistency before declaring a player is back but sometimes you just gotta go on faith alone. I'll start:

King Henrik is BACK!

Hank had a great game. He needs to keep it up and find some consistency. Poo has stepped it up, which helps, but Zucc needs some credit there. Anyone who plays with him will see a point increase.

All-in-all I think everyone is starting to grasp the system and it seems like our boys are starting to have fun out there instead of fumbling around for 60 minutes then skating off the ice with their heads down.

Rangers Report ‏@rangersreport

Tavares, Hiller and Lundqvist Named NHL three stars of the week.

Lundqvist went 3-0-1 with a 1.97 goals-against average and .943 save percentage

PDO is back! She is a cruel and unpredictable mistress that blessed us during the 11-12 season but has cursed us ever since, but now it seems like she is beginning to smile upon us once again.

Look at what she did to those poor souls in Toronto, she convinced an entire city that their team was average when in fact it is one of the worst in the league and the reality is now beginning to dawn upon the population.

The Optimists are back?

Did I do that right?

A good stretch of games and bam, right back into the "if we get in, anything can happen....derp derp"

Rick Nash, after many games of playing the role of team ghost, looks to be finding his game again.

Marc Staal is back.

I forgot which game it was, and it might've been against the Leafs which possibly lessens how great it was, but one of the recent games I saw him play one of the finest games of his career.

He's been incredibly solid after a subpar first game or two back. Great to see.

It has been so great to see Staal back to his #1 shut down self. He has been playing outstanding for a few weeks now. If he keeps it up throughout the rest of the year, we absolutely have to discuss an extension with him in the offseason (hopefully he isn't planning to jet to the Canes as most people--unfortunately--think.)

The Pink and Black Attack is Back!!

The biggest thing to me that is back is Confidence, and its clearly evident across the board. Lines have been kept together for the most part the whole season through thick and thin and that continuity and confidence in line mates is there. The most notable players to me are Del Zotto and Brassard. From game 1 you could tell Brassard's head is a big part of his game, a goal here a point there he starts to feel good and his playmaking abilities start to flourish, hes been making great plays with and without the puck. Del Zotto played like plain old horse **** for a good portion of the season, he gets moved back to the left side where he is most comfortable and Whammie we have a responsible 15-20 minute defense man who can chip in offensively as is making good plays on the breakout and powerplay.

To modify a West Wing quote: There may not be anything anymore that outpaces the hatred the optimists feel for the pessimists or the tonnage of disrespect the pessimists feel for the optimists.

Ugh what advanced stat metric is PDO? Also how does our CORSI and Fenwick look over the year?

The D is also scrambling too much around the net.

Both need to improve. And if/when one improves it should help the other.
that's the thing, the sudden switch to AV is taking much longer than expected to adjust to. Hank isn't used to the change in D and the new pads really hit him hard. He's giving up less bounces this past week but he still ways away from vezina caliber lundqvist.

To requote the immortal words of offensive luminary Anton Stralman last night:

Hank ist BACK!!

Now all we need is for our "power forwards" to give full effort every game before declaring them as being back.

Rick Nash and Chris Kreider aren't high motor players. They need to be every freaking shift before being BACK.
