I err on the side of generosity, and most relievers don't impress me.

There would be a very high chance that I would boycott Beltran on at least the first ballot.

Ortiz made it because he is very likable.

Despite his best efforts to rework his image, A-Rod is still a very controversial player and he actually tested positive for banned substances. As much as he should make it based on accomplishments, he likely won't.

No league holds a petty grudge like MLB.

I feel the same way about Pete Rose. Off the field? Disaster of a human being. But his play on the field is 100% HOF-worthy and the league really should acknowledge that.

If HOFs were really only about merit, I'd agree.

Considering they are mainly a marketing tool to promote the game and its history, I have no problem with Pete Rose not being in. Same for A-Rod, really.

They should be talked about as they are important parts of history, but not necessarily enshrined,

Honestly never found Ortiz to be that likeable. He just gets bonus PR because of the Red Sox factor and the 2013 Marathon Bombings.

A-Rod was not a perfect person but he was a helluva baseball player. His positive test also came at the end of his career when his HOF resume was already secured. Yes, he did use them while in Texas but even if you cancel those 3 seasons, he still has an elite resume. Heck, at least he was upfront about it.

Its sad one of the top 20 players of all time will have to wait for one of the committees to vote him in.

If Ramirez somehow gets in before him, whatever faith people have in the writers will be lost.

Speaking of writers, they should really revamp the voting system. You are leaving it up to peoples narratives about players - no reason they shouldn't do it like the HHOF and have a panels of guys from different areas - writers, executives, players, coaches etc.

The Hall of Fame is well within its rights to induct Rose if its management so chooses. The ban on inducting players on MLB's permanently ineligible list is a Hall rule and not under the jurisdiction of MLB in any way (the Hall is its own entity, owned by the Clark estate).

Frankly I think the precedent has been set - Joe Jackson was eligible for induction until 1990 or so (when the rule was set) and never earned more than a tiny handful of votes. I can't imagine Rose would have a different experience.

He broke the cardinal rule. He lied about it, then tried to turn his confession into a publicity stunt. I have no sympathy for him and would keep him out permanently.

I bet at least half of the players in the hhof cheated at one point or another. Players from the 50s and 60s were notorious for taking greenies which is basically steroids.

The baseball hall of fame is a complete joke though. I won't even consider it to be a legit hall of fame as long as Bonds and Clemens aren't in.

Bonds and Clemens will only get in through the veterans committee now, A-Rod may have a shot getting in but who knows with baseball writers.

I hate the inconsistency of these Hall of Fames

Kirby Puckett played 12 seasons, finished with a 51.2 WAR, had his career end due to injury, and received 82.14% of votes

Johan Santana played 12 seasons, finished with a 51.1 WAR, had his career end due to injury, and fell off the ballot after receiving just 2.4% of votes

Puckett was a 4.7 WAR player per 162 games, while Santana was a 5.4 WAR player per 162 games

I won't feel that the BB HOF is legit if they get into it.

I vote for Beltran and Rolen.

Pete Rose can get in a few years after he is dead.

Greenies were amphetamines (speed), not anabolic steroids. They were officially banned in 2005.

Today, 10% of MLB players are on Adderall, versus 4.4% of the adult US population.

I know what Greenies are and they were just as performance enhancing as steroids. They heightened a players sense, alertness and reaction time.
