Here's something from Saturday night at BB&T Center about the NHL's growing problem in the crease. Though the Cats are my thing, I made a point of going to Detroit's room to see how frustrated they were. It was well worth the effort. Some good quotes here.

Sorry it's a little late (and longish), but you know, Super Bowl and the beginning of spring training baseball coverage with the Mets today.

Hope you enjoy it!

The NHL’s Gray Problem

Good read. It's weird because there shouldn't be a gray area.

If you touch a goalie while he has at least a skate in the crease, it's interference...or even get caught standing in the crease, it should be considered the same as an offside if you're in the crease before the puck.
If a goalie's own player pushes the other teams player into the goalie- rule shuts off.

If a goalie has control of the puck and a player hits the goalie to knock it loose, it should be a goalie interference penalty.

A goalie has enough to worry about while facing a 100mph shot, hence the reason for the rules in the first place.

Simple enough, no??

Good article. Detroit players are whining. The call was correct. Hubie had position, which is the most critical part. Then he got nudged and he nudged the goalie. Not his doing. Mrazek oversold it, and knew it, that's why he tried to cover up his flopping with the anger bursts immediately afterwards.

Not only that, but Detroit players are also hypocrites. There was no acknowledgement that their tying goal was actually a kick. At best, THAT was grey zone.

Typical northern team who expects southerners to yield them the game because they're "entitled" to a win.

Detroit players are whining.

Holland has stupidly prolonged the Zetterberg/Dats/Franzen/Helm/Abdelkader-era with the contract situation and the guys in the locker room are feeling it. This is their only shot at making waves in the league and then they are officially done. Larkin, Mantha and AA aren't enough to offset the trend of aging vets and they are going to suffer at least couple of years for it. They should've done a proper rebuild by only having Zetterberg and Kronwall to have some vet presence. Now they are in the land of mediocrity.

Define "push" please, otherwise you are leaving a gray area.
