Who do you think has the best shot of becoming the next European to coach an NHL team? Will anybody in the forseeable future?

Hope I haven't forgotten any obvious candidates.

Sturm is the only one on this list that is actually working towards being a head coach in the NHL. Assistant coach in the NHL, and currently head coach in the AHL.

Sorry, but no European coach will be taken seriously as a candidate for an NHL coaching job until they come to North America and show some form of success coaching here.

NHL will continue to rotate the same old north american dinosaurs that they always done.
List of NHL coaches that are currently on their first team as a head coach:

Lalonde
Woodcroft
Evason
St. Louis
Brunette
Lambert
Smith
Derube
Cooper
Keefe
Carbery
Richardson
Bednar
Cronin
Tourigny
Granato
Huska
Brind'Amour

18/32 teams in the league currently have a head coach who is on their initial team that gave them their first head coaching spot in the NHL. There's a few coaches out their that everyone latches on to for this "rotate the same dinosaurs" as you put it. But if you pay attention, nhl teams are regularly hiring people as head coaches for the first time. It's just, so many just kind of fizzle out after 1 or 2 jobs in the NHL, and people just forget about them

Other: Jussi Ahokas current head coach of the Kitchener Rangers.

If Grönborg can do what Tapola did in Tappara last year and win CHL and Liiga this year, he could be the front runner for me of the ones listed. He speaks fluent english, has already coached in the NCAA, AWHL and WHL. Has the resume with back to back world championship wins with Sweden and if he gets one or both championships this year with Tappara, someone could and should hire him as assistant coach to the NHL.

I think after the Kruger disaster teams wont be hiring guys from across the pond for a while.

Unless of course they are like Sturm and either played win the league and/or have been coaching here.

His predecessor Housley already has a new job although he was worse than Krueger and never coached in Europe.
