Still lots to be solved before the season starts, and some of this may go into the season, but two teams look like they have to make trades to sign their players (Anaheim/Tampa Bay) and the list of RFA's yet to sign includes...

F- Johnny Gaudreau- Calgary
F- Richard Rakell- Anaheim
F- Tobias Rieder- Arizona Signed 10/3/16
F- Nikita Kucherov- Tampa Bay
D- Jacob Trouba- Winnipeg
D- Hampus Lindholm- Anaheim
D- Rasmus Ristolainen- Buffalo

So three questions:
1. Which team (if any) makes a trade?

2. Which (if any) guys get signed in the next 10 days?

3. Which (if any) of the above players get traded?

Out of those, I can see Risto signing simply because his situation seems the friendliest out of all of them. Aside from that, I wouldn't hold your breath.

Thanks for this :)

I predict Anaheim will make a trade, and will sign both of their RFA's. Who they will trade, and where they will go I have no real idea at this point. NJ seems like a reasonable guess though (just due to cap space).

1)- Only trade I see prior to the season start is Anaheim trading to sign Lindholm and Rakell, because it's a cap issue. The rest will carry into the season. In Tampa, Bishop will be moved for Kucherov, but not til the season has started and teams see what their goaltending needs are.

2 & 3)
Gaudreau - Sign
Rakell - Sign
Rieder - Trade
Kucherov - Sign after season start
Trouba - Trade
Lindholm - Sign
Ristolainen - Sign

Tampa and Anaheim make trades, although neither involves their prized RFA's (Clearing cap space).

In a surprising move Winnipeg trades Myers and finds a way to make it work with Trouba.

Every RFA, save Rakell (2 games into the season), signs a deal before the season starts.

Johnny hockey signs the richest deal (7.6M for 8 years).

No Meyers is better than Trouba, and a Chesterfield signs Trouba to a 1 year deal and sits him on the right side where he's comfy.

So is it actually plausible that some of these good players will not sign before the opener and miss games as a result? Seems strange to me but I guess if the two sides don't agree not much can be done.

Clearly Trouba is most comfortable sitting on the right side of the chesterfield. Everyone knows it to be the comfortable side, after the "incident".

In all seriousness, I think that everyone but the two that requested trades will be signed by opening night. Both Tampa and Anaheim are going to make deals prior to the start of the season to fit Kuch, Lindholm, and Rakell in.

Chesterfield's (seriously who uses that word?) can't sign players to contracts ya goofball.

I think Anaheim trades Fowler and Stoner (probably separately) to open up cap space. Then sign Rakell and Lindholm.

Arizona will trade Rieder and get someone to replace him from somewhere (probably internally).

Trouba should be moved out East somewhere.

Gaudreau and Ristolainen will sign soon I feel. I doubt it'll take much longer to figure those two out.

Tampa will probably make a few smaller moves to open up the space to sign Kucherov and then figure out the long term picture over time.

If Ducks trade Stoner separately they wouldn't be trading Fowler to save cap space.

JVR for Fowler + Stoner + conditional First 2017 (If Stoner plays less than 44 games for the Leafs it's a first, if more it slides to next season where the same conditions are applicable. If he plays more than 44 games that season it slides to a 3rd round pick 2018/9)

Ducks move cap space to sign Lindholm, and shift Salary to fill their biggest need.

Leafs get a top pairing guy and this makes either Fowler or Gardiner available to try and upgrade the right side.

Why would we sign Trouba to a 1 year contract?

Once that year is up, he goes to arbitration on his next contract, gets another 1 year deal, and hits UFA status exceptionally early.

One would expect a trouba trade in the near future, but curious, from an outside fan, could this turn in to a drouin situation? The price isn't there so they just let him sit at home till he decides to play? I don't see them getting a similar left shot d until teams get a bit into the season and see what they have, as has been said before I would gladly do a nurse yak swap from an edm pov

No way is Trouba going to sign a 1 year deal, That's just not happening period. And with Buff and Myers ahead of Trouba. The only way Trouba would be playing his natural right side is if Trouba was on the bottom pairing and that's not happening.

Trouba will be traded. I have a feeling it will be the Bruins because Sweeney just can't help himself.

Krug + 2nd round pick in 2017

They would've already got the LHD if one was available. Trouba is going to come back. Playing top pairing minutes may "stunt" his development, but sitting out the year hurts it more. Chevy isn't going to take less for Trouba because the organization has way more power than 22 year old who has limited rights due to the CBA. He's also got the backing of an ownership group who is patient, and a fanbase who is just happy the team is back. He's got one of the least pressure GM jobs in the NHL.
Also, Buff or Myers may get injured, and then that opens a spot for Trouba (even though I think he wants out because of Buff, not Myers).
