So, re-cast or write the character out?

It is time to move on from the Gina Carano firing. Everyone has had their say in the whole fiasco, but as of right now she is not coming back to the series. It seems clear this is too volatile of a subject and too close to political territory for this discussion to go well without either constant moderator action or the thread being closed to avoid the hassle. Any further discussion regarding this issue will be met with moderator action.

Whether deliberate or not, they gave the character an out near the end of the season when she was extended an invitation to join the Rangers, or whatever it was called. I imagine that there will simply be a spoken line at some point in Season 3 about her accepting the offer and another female character will be introduced to take her place. It should be easy to move on. It might even be beneficial because I don't think that Dune added much to the show. Maybe her replacement could become a love interest or something. On second thought, maybe not.
 
What a f***ing idiot. And I think her storyline was done at the end of both last seasons, bringing her back felt optional.

Can't say she'll be missed, what a flat character.
 
I don't think the character needs to be recast. Not all that important (or interesting) in the big scheme of things. I will say these kinds of self-destructive episodes are fascinating. Is she that daft or was this just going out in a blaze of glory because she saw the writing on the wall?

Yeah, her character was pretty irrelevant, especially for the screen time she got. You can write her out pretty easily, she won’t really be missed by many.

As for her Twitter - yikes. When you have the platform and opportunity she had, it’s best to keep some comments to yourself. You’re not representing just yourself, you’re representing a company and franchise. Can’t believe she ruined her chance at her own SW show.

Carano’s character definitely isn’t essential. Whatever they choose to do is fine. Write her out, replace, re-cast, whatever. She’s not much of an actress, so it’s kind of meh to me.

She’s a f***ing idiot for messing up a cushy job like this. She had everything to lose and nothing to gain by posting that crap. I’ll never understand why those in the public eye would risk their livelihoods over social media. It’s not like she even had an admirable/defensible position on a hot-button issue, she just came out of left field with a bunch of garbage.

That's actually what she did. Multiple times.

Look at her comments about trans people for example.

Gina Carano was not "cancelled" for one incident or one bad "opinion". She was fired for a pattern of problematic behavior. There has been rumours about her getting fired for months. I would speculate that Disney told her to knock it off multiple times and she did not.

As I said, she only has her own stupidity to blame. Once again, as I mentionned previously, it has nothing to do with a "stupid opinion", she is spreading lies and hate. That's why she was fired and that's why she deserved it. People use freedom of speech very easily, but they do not even understand what it really means.

If you re-cast Cara just find another WWE superstar to fill in

Heck you already got Sasha Banks

Put Bayley or something to recast :laugh: Or you could just scrap Cara. She wasn't that important anyway

I really like the Mandalorian, but it really does have several flat characters who get too much screen time. It wouldn’t hurt the show to focus a little more on quality time with the interesting ones.

The fact that Carano self-identified as a drag on the franchise’s image simply makes it convenient to go in that direction.

Yeah that timeline is not right. He's saying the beep boop bop thing was in November 2020 after the other stuff but it was MUCH earlier - at least in september 2020 :
Disney actress lists pronouns as 'beep/bop/boop' and internet freaks out

So if he's getting easily verifiable facts completely wrong, it's hard to believe the rest.

EDIT: By ''the rest'', I obviously mean all the non public knowledge events he claimed he had an insine source on.

Those tweets didn't become an issue or a story until November. That's when #FireGinaCarano began trending. That was also when the rest of her tweets came out.

That is wrong. The twitter mob was after Gina Carano ever since the september BEEP BOOP BOP thing. It's well detailed, and out there in the medias. Even if you are right, Campea is DEAD WRONG in his timeline. It's not debatable. What he said was just incorrect. And it's hard to believe his timeline as a result. This is all very factual. I provided a link proving it where it's clearly mentionned Carano is being harassed online for the BEEP BOOP BOP thing and that article dates from September 16th. And I remember pretty clearly what happened from back then. So ... there's no debate to be had here on the facts. Ever since that date, there has been a campaign to have Gina Carano's head. No amount of spinning from Campea, or anyone else, can change that.

Gina Carano looked the part of a female shocktrooper, but her acting was pretty wooden

I don't mind if they recast Cara Dune or write her out and give more prominence to another female actress. It'd be great if they found a way to work in more Bo Katan or introduce Sabine Wren (from Star Wars: Rebels) though it's possible Sabine Wren will be in the Ashoka Tano show since
she ties in with finding Ezra Bridger and Admiral Thrawn

My exposure is limited since I've only seen her in S1 but she was just some rogue female "bad ass" and you could literally have any wwe superstar or MMA star take her place

Nothing Cara did was particularly outstanding or stood out

- helped Mando free those people

- helped Mando free another set of people (familiar theme?) from empire rule in end of S1

didn't see her in S2 yet
