Forgive me if this is stupid of me, but I don’t HATE Halak as a backup, and if Demko can be solid with Halak playing basically his careers average behind him… our forward group is significantly better than last year, all it will take is our defence not being complete trash… which should be possible with a much better bottom six… maybe, just maybe we won’t be trash…? Maybe I’m just being overly optimistic but I feel like all it will take is a pleasant surprise from OEL/Poolman and we might be.. good?

Well they have worse RHD depth than we do. Toews is a good fit beside Makar, but after that it's more questionable than ours. They really need Byram to hit and Johnson to be a decent player to make it past 2 rounds. They don't look better than last year when Vegas shut them down.

This reshuffling seems like it should boost the team, but really, it's all going to come down to Pettersson, Hughes and Demko, IMO.

Pettersson for his health, Hughes for a rebound, and Demko for carry over consistency. If these three players show well, then the Canucks should make the playoffs in this now weaker division. Weaker even than the Pacific had been before. VAN vs. CGY is the key match up.

The Wildcard spot should go to a Central Division team.

ARZ moving to the Central in order to add SEA to the West only helps the Canucks' chances as well.

Pretty much everyone feels better about Halak than Holtby as a player and because it’s a one year.

The only thing is that pushing the bonuses to next year is a huge opportunity cost where I would have probably just gone with a cheaper option and had that goalie fight with Dipietro for the backup spot, but that’s just me.

They could trade him at the TDL if he hasn’t hit ten games provided Demko is healthy and DiPietro dominates (which I’m willing to guarantee that he does)
