Highest profile was Demitra. Best? Mitchell is up there, but can't compete with Simmer.

Not really arguing, but is it easier to sign a good FA back when there were far fewer teams than today? I guess the counter would be that there is a cap now that would limit the big-money teams from buying everyone like they could--if they wanted--back before the cap.

I'm going to toss Muzzin's hat in to the ring, unless this is only limited to guys who had NHL experience at the time. Key component to the '14 team and appears to be a fixture moving forward. Contributes to a Cup and is poised to provide several more years of service to the Kings.

I forgot that Randy Robitaille was actually having a decent season with the Kings before Pittsburgh nabbed him off waivers.

Since Muzzin wasn't on his initial UFA contract when they won in '14 and Mitchell was still on his for the '12 Cup, I'd have to lean Mitchell as well.

Let's give some credit for the Stu Grimson signing as well. Guy was a pretty important part of the 2001 team back when enforcers still existed. Sad as it may be, that was probably the best team of the '00s given the fact they won a playoff series.

That also is a bit of an indictment on this team's history with free agents.

Still remember that Reid Simpson ko (and reading all the reactions at fried-chicken) like it was yesterday!

It's a very short list but looking at the names listed Simmer is a no brainer. The Kings have been AWFUL at free agent signings, if you wanted to make a worst free agent of all time signed by the Kings you would have HF posters at each others throats.

Willie Mitchell for me, ****ing love that guy and he was instrumental in our first Cup run.
