Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it looks like that was only the second time in history the Lightning have been outscored by 5+ goals in a playoff game and the first since 1996 against the Lindros-led Flyers.

Helluva statement game by the Leafs.

Don’t give that team or their big mouth coach any respect. Not an ounce. They’ve shown themselves to be clowns, so treat them like it. Run them outta the building in game two, and punch them in the mouth in the process. Send them home reeling.

That was about as perfect a playoff game you could play. (excluding the Clifford boarding penalty).

Leafs controlled every aspect of the game from start to finish, won almost every contested puck battle and dominated.

With both Matthews and Marner off to good goal scoring starts and Campbell shutout one couldn't have hoped for more things to go right in game #1,

Well done Leafs... That was a real confidence builder !!!

Still like to see how Simmonds got back into a fight - it's like they went to commercial after maroon and Perry were mouthing off

Enough talk about Marner getting over a hump (with his now 11 points in his last 13 playoff games), I was happy to see Mikheyev pick up his first ever playoff point last night in his third series.

No longer the worst playoff producer in the league.

Credit to Dubas for bringing in these guys this year: Kampf, Kase, Blackwell, Giordano, Boosh, Bunting. Really changed the dynamic of the team i believe.

It's interesting to me how Dubas' depth signings were off the charts incredible, but his bigger signings (Ritchie, Mrazek) were disastrous.

The Boosh trade was a great recovery from the Ritchie situation, to be fair.

Either way, the Leafs are looking like the best version of the blue and white I've seen in my lifetime, assuming Campbell can stay healthy. I like Kallgren but man I'd feel a lot better if we had signed someone other than Mrazek.....

In the end, though, credit to Dubas for his work this season....even if just believing in his guys like Engvall. I would still have liked another goalie but it's hard to argue with the results

Put me in the camp that doesn’t want Clifford to see the ice again. That boneheaded play could have easily put the team down and that whole game changes.
You can’t dress a guy if you can’t trust him not to be stupid.
Agreed. Having Wayne Train in the lineup is enough.

He was the odd man out with Bunting coming back anyways and Spezza is a better option in almost every way as well.

I think Keefe wants to keep the Bolts honest though and I can see him going back in as a strategic thing too as Tampa will probably take a few stupid penalties trying to "get back" at him on the ice. Clifford just needs to troll them right and it could work out well for the Leafs.

Maybe, maybe not. Keefe was saying that Clifford makes the 3rd line much better in both ends. I'd rest Kase some or move Kerfoot down to #4C.

Well that was ‘different’ than what I expected. Year after year the first game of the playoffs usually has us getting punched in the face (or kneed in the head last year) and running scared. How absolutely refreshing is it to see this team finally have it click and play with a real playoff hockey mindset?!

compete level was off the charts.

everything About yesterday was so beautiful. I hope they change nothing for game 2 and go with the same lineup including Clifford. Ok maybe bunting for Clifford.

While I agree, I almost think dressing him simply as a distraction for Tampa's rage might have its own advantages....just so long as we're ruffling feathers and not inspiring

I think Tampa may have been tired given they were supposed to have come to Toronto straight from the Island and I believe played 10 or their last 15 on the road. They haven't lost two in a row (playoffs) in I don't know how long. Time to end that streak Wednesday.

Exactly. You know Keefe will put him on the ice again right away though because he’s got his guys that he leans on.

I wouldn’t put him on the ice because the refs will give him absolutely no benefit of the doubt. If it’s close call and he’s involved, it’s a penalty.

Any points Mik gets at this point are just gravy. At some point in the last few weeks he decided he's going to be a pest and it carried into last night. The man is on a mission and seems like one of the guys TB players are going to hate coming out of this series.

TB looked tired and uninterested and could barely string 3 consecutive passes together and looked they were a man down while on the PP.

Coach Cooper must have sensed something, because even in his pregame press conference he began his sentences with "If we lose ..." "its a long playoffs..". His pregame interview sounded more like a post game press conference.

If our Leafs played a game like that I would be thinking playoff series sweep. so its really nice to be landing on the positive side of what TB must have thought was an embarrassing effort and performance all around.

Rather then the Cup champs they looked more like a non playoff team simply playing out the season.

Game #1 - Leafs Awesome & Lightening Brutal
