It was an accidentally on purpose kind of play where you get a piece and see what happens. In a game of attrition, old school hockey sees every hit as an “investment” as dinosaur as it seems. I absolutely believe Perry intended to put the hurt on Tavares but the severity was obviously not by design.

I can agree with this, Stephen - You've hit the nail on the head. It was an unfortunate byproduct but the ramifications were severe. Do I think we somehow win that series? I don't know but our chances improve with JT in the lineup.

A solid effort all the way.
*Clifford messed up, but...
*PK was spot on!
*kudos to M&M, well done, but Mikheyev and Engvall were lights out.
*Rielly/playoffs, gold.
*Kerfoot deserves more appreciation.
*campbell.
*Stammer had a couple of chances, we can’t afford that.

Perry took a shot at Tavares and that helped Montreal win the series. Small price for Perry.

I don't really want to look ahead too much. Just win one 20 minute segment at a time against the defending champions. Stay focused and do the things that we did well tonight and let it snowball.

Yeah if you play like you expect a long series, you can make it short.

The moment you start feeding your ego, things snowball the wrong way.

It's just one game but as an outsider looking in on the team, it just feels different.

THIS. IIRC we won game one rather decisively last year against them, so don't ease up on the pedal. TML has a MASSIVE speed advantage, and you guys, at least most of them, look like they have that "eye of the tiger" as the up-and-coming contender vs the over-the-hill fighter.

Stay aggressive, screen Vasilevsky and I think you guys can do this in 6, maybe even 5.

Plus I want to see Lou's face if JT wins a cup this year LOL.
Colour me surprised.

Never thought I’d see a NYI fan on our side and wanting to see Lou upset.

Check out this hot take six months ago lol... Sandin'll be fine too anyways tho. Lilly has been a slow boil for a long time now.

as I always said... Lilly is better at defending, Sandin is a better defender.

No shit I can honestly say that might be the first playoff game In 3 seasons for us I can say was called well by the referees. Might even have been longer. They're not perfect and it's impossible to expect them to be, but they stopped [most of] the extracurriculars, called *actual* penalties (besides the Bush one) on both teams, and because they were blowing the whistle nothing got too far out of hand besides Perry and Maroon acting like dumb f***s. Call penalties when there are penalties. You affect the game more by letting shit go and letting teams take things into their own hands.

On the other hand, LFG. Exactly how you want to start a series against these f***s. They were outstanding. Kerfoot, Nylander, Marner, Liljegren, and Gio were all on another level and everyone besides the 4th line were excellent. S/o to Jack for playing perfect and rewarding the team for how good they were with a shutout.

Can’t get too ahead of ourselves after tonight’s big victory. You know Tampa will come out strong next game and try to even out the series heading to Florida. If Bunting is still out, I’d roll the same lines we went into tonight’s game.

Kampf with the most minutes of our forwards and over 7 mins of PK time with a shorty.

Matthews with 16:47 on the ice and over 8 mins on the PP.

Tavares over half his minutes on the PP with over 9 mins and 13-3 on the dot.
Awesome TOI all around tonight. Marner was even under 20 too.

These boys are gonna be fresh as hell for the next one.

Isles fan here, who might actually be a bigger TML fan this series than any of you...plus I still love Tavares, so there's that.

Please, please...win this series. 1 down, 3 to go. You dodged a bullet with a 5 min pk - as we learned the last 2 ECFs - you MUST stay out of the box as they are deadly on the PP. And make sure you hit Kucherov, Hedman and Point at every turn.

We are pulling hard for you, at least the more honest ones ;)
I like you.

I would like to make a proposal that Clifford's jersey number be changed from #43 to any other number. Something voodoo is up with #43 and being a Leaf in recent years

I like you.
Just being honest.

I like yours' and the NYR rosters A LOT better than mine, have for years - and I've told people time and time again that the NYR and/or the TML will win a cup before we do.

I state facts, and despite a lot of people in this world declaring how they prefer hearing the truth - they don't.

The poster who said this series is on JT's back, and they might be right. If we had him last year, I think he would have gotten us over the hump in game 7. He did in to FLA in 2016 in a series we had no business winning. His lack of speed is a factor, but he has puckhandling skills that can open space for your other stars, of which you have many. If he has a good series, it will be over quickly.

The speed they jump to commercials after a whistle you'd think the producer gets a cut of the commission on the commercials aired
You’re giving the Sportsnet producer too much credit. They can’t think that many steps ahead. Worst f***ing hockey broadcast I’ve ever seen…3 years(?) running. I hope there’s a Sportsnet person reading this, your product is AWFUL.

P.S. Leafs are the best.
