I.E.
Is there a team with more self-inflicted pain than the Kings this year?

2nd in the league in goals for, but last in the league in goals against by a significant margin...have given up 6 goals 3 times, a goal on the very first shot 4 times.

Game 1 was the last minute Durzi turnover/backbreaker to Vegas.

Game 2: hold Seattle to 22 shots but lose 4-1.
Game 3: a 7-6 barnburner/goaltending suckfest between Cal Petersen and MAF.
Game 4: nearly snatch defeat from the jaws of victory when Arvidsson goes full schmuck on an EN, Wings tie it up...Kings get the lucky win in OT:

Game 5: come roaring back in the 3rd for a fun shootout win in Nashville
Game 6: 40 shots on the Pens but Jarry comes up strong and get absolutely rolled 6-1
Game 7: Give up 4 third period goals including a garbage wraparound to lose 4-3 in Washington
Game 8: An improbable win vs. a TBL team that had won 10 straight vs. the Kings, who looked to establish an identity in the last 40 minutes...before
Game 9: I'm not sure I've seen more dominant Kings team than the first period vs. Winnipeg, and they still found a way to continually shoot themselves, losing 6-4.

What do other fans make of this Kings team? Is it salvageable? Just goaltending issues? Entertaining in a chaotic 80s way, but completely ineffective hockey.

They seem about what I expected them to be. Very young D is going to be prone to mistakes, but when they are on they look dominate. Goaltending has been an issue their for years. They should trade Quick and try to bring in a 1B with Petersen.

Probably all Fiala's fault.

Funny you mention it, Fiala is the latest Todd McLellan Kovalchuk, got demoted to the 4th line today

wait, this guy who has a penchant for floaty defense and inconsistent efforts isn't an elite checker?

Rob Blake and TM, evergreen shock at their own acquisition

Hey, if you only look at the last 40 against Tampa and the first 20 against the Jets, that's a complete 60 minutes there. That's pretty good!

For the people who didn't watch the first period between the Kings and the Jets, I feel like it's worth mentioning that after having around 30 more shot attempts and some 20 more scoring chances than the Jets after 15 minutes in the first period, the Kings allowed a SHG to cut their lead to 3-2. And then almost allowed the Jets to tie the game at 3-3. On the same PP.

Kinda the opposite of the Hawks who before losing in the last minute to EDM last night had a 4 game winning streak where they had come back wins in all of them. This from a team intentionally trying to be bad enough to be in the Bedard lottery. Now, the regression to the mean will catch up to them so Hawks fans aren't planning a parade but I think it's kinda funny that a bad team is finding ways to win when they don't want to while a good team is finding ways to lose when they want to win.

He's been that bad? Thought Fiala is exactly what that Kings squad needed, some more offensive talent.

We call that Kruegering where I come from.

Last year’s New Jersey Devils have entered the chat. We feel your pain more than anybody else here. We understand all about giving up goals. It is the worst feeling watching those leads slip away. I’m sorry, truly.

Those helmets are atrocious.

Hiding them for the rest of the season would go a long way torwards making the Kings watchable again.
They are actually the most watchable they have been in years. Season has played out exactly like I thought it would: Kings would score a lot more but would also give up more goals.

Pinball helmets suck though, for sure.

Aside from Boston, Calgary and maybe Vegas, it would seem every team is having stretches where they're playing like they want to be in the Bedard lottery. Seems like every division is up for grabs and no team is without flaws. Just as it should be in the salary cap era.

It might have something to do with the coach throwing his arms up in the air and not implementing a system of his own... his comments about the team "not knowing what type of hockey they want to play" is really odd for a veteran coach to spout off about.
